Could anyone post some more photos of IX black housing tails with the VHT night shades? I have the lights out, I got the paint, it's all ready to go but having second thoughts.
I got a pristine, unmodded IX SE and it's tempting to keep it factory stock. However I hate the OEM eBay-special looking tails.

I've been trying lots of things. Pre-cutting strips of painters tape failed. Going slice by slice also failed. Now I've covered the whole turn signal area and I'm debating if I want to attempt ILuvJDM's perfect job, or just half-*** it and go with kind of a widebody version of the Lancer ES red/white basic look like this:

I put a strip of tape on a plastic clipboard I had, measured the width 1/8" I think, then put a yard stick over it and pulled a razor blade down to get perfect strips. When they were on the light straight, I then cut the curves on the tail light by looking at an angle you can see them...

Here's a tip, when people and the directions say 3-4 coats, that means 3-4 coats. A back and forth spray to cover the areas you missed is not a coat, odds are it's like 5. I just messed it up pretty bad, but I'll sand it tomorrow and start over again.
A quick spray doesn't have any gloss, it leaves a rough texture, but a very slow spray is too damn thick and starts to run, practice on a bottle first.
