Defi Racer gauge install question

I had a question about installing one of these. So there are 4 electric wires you have to connect.

red - B+
orange - Ignition on
white - illumination
black - ground

so i when i connected the ground, illumination, and ignition wires, the gauge works. so what is the red B+ wire for? why do i need 2 power wires?

second question is, what is the best wires to tap into for the orange, white, and red wires (if needed). for the time being, i just put the white wire into the #2 fuse (cluster gauge illumination) and the orange into the #1 fuse (ignition/ignition coil). these fuses are the ones located under the dash.

i read that the white wire can be spliced into the white/green dimmer switch wire,
but i dont know exactly which wire is good for the ignition on and b+.

thanks for the help

The red one is the power wire. The illumination wire is there to work when you turn your headlights on at night. This will dim the gauge just like your radio dims when you turn on your headlights.

^+1 on the radio harness for the constant 12V.

i'm thinking of using the interior lights because I think there is a fuse for it right by the ignition fuse.

well, the gauge should come with in-line fuses. The radio harness has every single one of those wires and you can tap into it.

gauges

i am always surprised to see people trying to install elactrical items in their cars without a clue of what the wires they are installing do or where they should go.the defi racer gauges do not have peak or recall.a red wire should pretty much tell you that its a 12 volt constant wire.all of these wires can be t-tapped at the radio harness.if you dont hook upthe dimmer then the gauges are too bright at night and are a distraction in the car.sometimes its just best to find someone who has done this before to walk you through it in person.good luck

Using T-Taps isn't the best advice either
