its 2 bolts. its very very easy. let me know if you have questions

Its pretty easy.

1. Disconnect the negative terminal on your battery
2. Remove the splash shield if you have it under the car
3. Remove the starter shield (I think that has to come off.)
4. Remove the little grounding clip on the starter as well as the power wire ( I think its a 12mm)
5. There are two bolts that hold the starter in place that go through bell housing. One faces the starter side and the other faces the drivers side.

It should just come out and do it in reverse to put it back in. Hope this helps.

I just replaced the starter but the new one is a little bigger than the stock starter and the starter shield won't fit anymore. I can't even get it to screw on at any of the 4 bolt points. Is it okay to leave it off if the undertray still covers the starter?

If not, does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get one or how to make one?

Thanks:thumbup:

Anyone have an update on fitting the cover on the larger starter? Is it even necessary?

One thing I noticed when pulling the Evo starter is the high quality connector on the signal wire (the wire from the ignition switch at the starter). It locks in place until you press the tab in just the right way. Force it and you will break the connector. People who have damaged this connector find that it then tends to giggle loose causing a no crank condition.

The starter on my wife's Subaru failed so I bought an aftermarket Amazon starter for it. It worked for about three months and then failed. New Subaru starters were on back order, my order was finally just canceled. So, I took the Chinesium starter apart and found it had brass bushings and no lube. Greased, it works fine.

As for the heat shield on the Evo starter, is it needed? Well, the starter will last longer if you don't roast it.
