HOW TO: build your own double pump set up for evo8-9
 

this double pumper set up uses the stock fuel line as the primary line, then you can use the evap line as your second line to the engine bay, then you will need to Y then together going from two small lines to one large line, I us a 6an/6an to 8an Y, in my engine bay, 8an to feed the fuel rail, remember the stock lines are 5/16th lines so you might need adapter crush fittings to make them fit a 3/8th to 6an crush fittings, 5/16 crush to 3/8 crush then 3/8 crush-6an fitting to the Y,
first you start with your stock pump insert, and figure out what you need to keep for support

then start cutting away the rest, sorry little blurry, damn phone.

then cut some more

then use a die grinder bit to smooth out the lid(aluminum or steel bit)

next drill out the stock line out let hole enough to use a 1/8inch tap in
(make sure its a little smaller that the tap so you can make good threads, be careful and slowly step up by using bigger and bigger bits until your at the desired size, GO SLOW!)

make sure the fitting threads in

you will need to shorten the fitting a little

next figure out where you will want the second hole for the second fuel pump fitting to penetrate the lid. put the pumps together to get an idea were it lines up, since I'm using walbro416's this is where it will work for me. make sure you make it the same size bit as the other hole so you can tap it.

then thread in the fitting

then using your wrenches put your 90 fitting on, (use wrenches so you don't flex the plastic or it WILL crack)

if your using the 416's you will need to cut off one barb

you will need to solder the stock fuel pump plug onto the pump that's using the stock fuel line

now its time to fit everything together, you might have to take it on and off a few times to get it right, and remember it can only be 6 1/8 inches from the rubber gasket to the bottom of the fuel pump socks or it wont fit in the tank.

I used a drill bit the same diameter as the wires to make two holes for the second pump wires to come through the lid, seems to work pretty good keeping the thing from leaking, but you can do this part how ever you want, bulkhead fitting or whatever just make sure it wont leak gas.

when you install it into the tank you will need to put the fuel level sensor in part way then snap it into the pump housing bracket as your putting in the pump, I put the float end in then hold it while I put the pump socks in then hold it midway while I snap the level sensor on to the pump housing.

That's really sweet, nice job man!! I'm way to chicken sh*t to start cutting and drilling the hell out of my hanger so when I need more fuel ill proly go Buschur double pumper but, damn, nice job!!!

that's why I did this how to thread its way cheaper to DIY, and this double pump set up utilizes the stock fuel line as your primary(so no cutting or re-running fuel hoses), and this way of doing it allows you to run a sound line to the engine bay for twice the fuel volume(I use the evap line on my car, same size as the original fuel line and it goes clear to the engine bay where I Y it together into a larger line (-6by-6 to-8)) then I run a -8 to my rail, you will have to put in a inline filter but that's the easy part.

Great Job! It doesn't look like much but how much did all of this cost?

fitting cost 20 bucks, walbro 255's are about 85$ each, 450's are 220$ 400's 185$ so the pumps are the biggest cost for the hole thing

You can always us the factory plug using the positive wire to the first pump and using the old negative wire for the positive to the second pump then simply put a bulkhead fitting or a bolt through the top and tie the grounds together on the bottom side and on the top side run a wire to the chassis for ground. That will help clean up the wiring and is what I use to do on Supra's to allow more space for the pump fittings. Just food for thought.

yes I use a 8an 40micron stainless steel screen filter in the engine bay after my 6an/6an/8an Y. setup works great guys, I haven't reached the limits of it yet with my set up, and I am only running 43lbs base pressure.

Nice Job! I had a filter plug up in one of those enclosed unservicable pump/filter housings. It also got the Hack, new fittings, and external inline filter method. Saved me a ton of money. At the time you couldn't just buy the plastic piece with a new filter in it. Searched all over the internet and wasn't gonna pay for a whole fuel sender assembly.

And man what a great idea to use both the factory wires as the positives. Great idea.
