The local BestBuy has 9853. My initial impression, it seemed a little awkward. It would just take some time getting used to.

Dude,

skip the Alpine HU and get a decent Eclipse HU w/ 8v preout and surround!
nothing beats the clean sound of Eclipse!!!

oh, then get XM satellite...boom boom

just remember that the top one, i beleive that its the 8831 has no internal amp so u NEED a 4 channel for the door speakers, you get the wma and other stuff because they remove other stuff liek teh amp.

The new 9855 has everything, ainet, mp3 wma all the goodies, and you can change the color of the buttons/screen to match the interior of the evo.

if you want true sound and money isnt a problem go with an eclipse head unit, mb quart mids and higs( the Q"s) jl amps, and subs

if you get 2 sets of 6.5's for the front and rear, a jl 450/4, 1000/1 and 1 12w7 you will have the best sounding system in your town

i work at a stero shop and when people say they want the best this is what they get.

I just ordered the Alpine 9851 last night. I'm curious why you didn't consider this one? It's basically the highest model that doesn't have the glide touch. I went to Best Buy yesterday and played with them all. The glide touch was neat, and pretty intuitive, but it also seemed a little gimmicky. I guess it's fine.. I just didn't see the need for it. It wasn't worth the extra $100 to me.

Really though, I'm still not sure I made the right decision. The 9847 just went on sale at BB today. For only $180, it seems like a great deal.

I was mainly debating between the Alpine 9851 and the Pioneer 7700. The 7700 looked good on paper (lots more features for the money), but I was very disappointed when I actually played with the units in the store. All the Pioneers had a very cheap feeling. When you pressed a button on the top half of the thing, the whole faceplate would pivot up/in a little bit. The non-motorized faceplate mechanism just isn't as solid as the motorized Alpine. You could also hear the faceplate plastics squeaking as the whole thing flexed a bit when you pressed any buttons. The directional push dial sounds like a good idea, but feels kind of poor too. The Alpine seemed to have less flashiness, but a lot more quality. Plus, who the heck wants to watch dolphins swimming when they're supposed to be driving?? Just my opinion..

I think you should just stack bricks up in your trunk since you're in to adding all that weight to your EVO. LOL None of that stuff's gonna make your car any faster....... wait....my Evo has a radio??? LOL
