Is the 3rd gen HVAC unit from the Eclipse/Galant better than ours? (i.e., are they sticky)

I think they are. The action seems smoother and more direct.
It feels like the position selector locks into place better.

as for relocating the OEM controls, very brave move. i don't suppose you remember me, but i contacted you about this awhile back as well. what did you do about the overlay you were trying to fabricate?

if i were using the oem controls as you did, i wouldnt have used a shop. however, since i didnt, and much cutting and splicing was necessary, i entrusted my car in the hands of a real professional.

thanks for all the compliments guys. im going to look into some sort of a group buy to get you all in on the fun. i hope that damn AVN5495 comes out soon already, i want to install it.

I would get in on a group buy if it's ever put together. Anything nicer than our stock controls... do you think you can get us a up-close daylight pic of the new controls? Do they match well with our console?

Cool, thanks.

Do these "click" in increments? No, right? They still have to pull the mechanical cables in the rear, I think.

Where is the other button? Stock HVAC has AC, Recirc, Defroster buttons.

Looks great, BTW.

Was it just a wiring harness PITA or did it require lengthening the stock actuator cables?

Dave, all the buttons you aforementioned are on the unit. The only feature I lost was the 'MAX- AC' feature. Not a big deal at all. The Air-Conditioning is more than sufficient.

The wiring harness was a PITA, but so was getting the unit to actually recess into the inner dashboard. Some minor cutting of metal within the dash was necessary to get the unit to fit perfectly. The mechanical cables were fine.

This looks awesome, but what I really want is the JDM automatic A/C with the silver knobs in place of this. It's really hard to do from what I have heard due to the lack of avalibility and parts.

I think it's actually close to impossible. It's not simply a lack of parts, but our system is mechanical - it uses cables to actually physically control our climate units. The autoclimate units are electronic. It's like trying to mix half an apple and half an orange into a full one of either. It just doesn't work...

If you did, you'd probably have to rehaul the entire AC system (possibly) as well as everything else related to climate.

Looks like the EVO 9 DIN from Japan has the silver tint like our OEM dash. At least that is what I see here : https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=135739

That's Gilbert's setup. The piece in that photo is an overlay, not the actual dash panel. He's going to have a nice setup soon..
