Trunk Dynomat

Don't ***** at me for doing it - just tell me, if you WERE going to do it and do it RIGHT would you do the spare tire well or just the removable lid?

I'm keeping the spare and mounting an Infinity Basslink (no flames on that either, please) for quick-release for autocross/road racing events. I have a loud exhaust and want some peace in the cabin so I can hear my tunes. It's about the only place I can do so, so I'm putting in a sound system.

I want the most effective trunk sound-deadening.

Thanks any and all for constructive input!

do every single part of the trunk if you want to do it right.

In other words, the spare tire bay as well as the top of the board that goes over it?

that's some horrible advice...

install the sub then listen for rattles... only apply as much as is needed in the area's needed to stop them. The less sub and the less power you're pushing the less you'll need. It's about using as little as possible to get the job done.

The biggest gains I go were from making the trunk lid heavier, but I'm running a lot more then a basslink.

The basslink barely (if at all) rattles. With stock speakers, a panasonic headunit and the basslink, i've been very happy with no sound deadening.

At about 13lbs for the sub/amp combo, you can't go wrong with the basslink. Install it first and see what you think...I decided against deadening and you may too

it fits so nicely too.

No need to do the board covering the spare, but do the floor underneath the spare.

I want to try to squelch the exhaust, really, the sound and vibration from it will kill anything else. I heard that doing the trunk was the best approach. I was just wondering if folks did the spare well or just the lid. The spare well seems to make sense.

Thanks for the input! Any more?

that will NEVER happen :/ what you really need is more sub to overpower the sound.

well, i hate to tell you this, but from my experience dynamatting the trunk didn't seem to cut down the exhaust noise much, if at all. i did the whole bottom of the trunk (took the wheel and jack out, then put it back in). don't do the board it all rests on, that would be pointless. i also did the four upper panels in the trunk, and it seemed to work pretty well tightening up the bass, but i could still really hear the drone of the exhaust (magnaflow) over it all.

one more fyi, cascade audio makes some stuff that's a lot cheaper than dynamat and works just as well.

good luck buddy!
