Need advice on stereo setup

I'm almost ready to upgrade the sound system on my 05 EVO SSL, but before doing it I need comments on my idea.

I have a Premier DEH-P940MP head unit, RF 10" 2-ohms DVC subwoofer (I think it's the HX2 Power model) enclosed on a sealed box, and Alpine monoblock amp (I forgot the model), all of them taken out from my previous car.

Now what I'm about to buy: MB Quart PCE216 for front speakers, MB Quart RCE216 for rears (in coaxial mode), and Infinity Reference 7541A for powering them (111 watts RMS x 4 @ 4-ohms). Do you guys think this setup is OK? I was considering Polks db650 and db6500, and even Polk Momos MMC650 and MMC6500 for speakers, but I think MB Quarts are far superior. Also, is the stock amp location good for this aftermarket amp? Finally, AFAIK MB Quarts do not require adapters to fit the speakers in the stock position, is it true?

Thanks in advance for any comment/advice.

Sounds like your not worried about weight.

I guess the SSL rumor is right. Not worth the sound upgrade. u still have the MItsu 6 CD changer?

how are you planning on wiring those subs? Will that amp handle a 1ohm load? As far as speakers, I think its a waste to put seperates in the stock locations. Doubt you get very good imaging with those tweets in the a-pillar, but i dunno..

no the SSL is definatly not worth it, well for the stereo at least. I would go with another amp. I am not familiar with mb quarts, but I am with those Infinity amps. Trust me, you will want a different amp..

kicker makes rock solid 4 channels and the new mtx amps are nice as well..this is coming from first hand installation experience...

I was thinking the same thing too when I was reading the original post, but at the bottom he says that they came out of his old car. So that amp must be 1 ohm stable. Either that, or they are wired to a 4 ohm load..

The sub is wired to work at 1-ohm, and the amp is rock solid at that rate. It worked that way for over a year without a single problem.

About weight, the SSL package comes with 6 speakers (components on front, standard on rear) plus the enclosed sub on the trunk. On top of that there is a stock amp under the driver seat, so I won't add too much weight because I'm just replacing the stock parts.

There is no CD changer on the SSL Evo.

The stock SSL has front component speakers, tweeters on the A-pillars and regular woofers on the doors. I'm not changing the setup, I'm just upgrading the speakers, so better tweeters on the A-pillars will help getting better imaging.

The SSL system sounds better than most stock systems (any car), but not good enough for someone already spoiled by aftermarkets systems like me. Anyway MB Quart are speakers comparable to Boston Acoustic, great sound quality. On the other hand I really appreciate the tip on the amp, I'll do some research on Kicker and MTX, I wasn't sure about the Reference series on Infinity. Thanks kmcconn9.

You don't find MB Quarts too shiny? I had their separates in a car and they annoyed the hell out of me, hurting my ears or so it seemed. Personally, I like Image Dynamics and Focal. Both are a bit shiny but as they break in, they are truly magnificent speakers. If I could find a set of old a/d/s (pre-Directed) sitting around somewhere, I'd grab those in a heartbeat too

SSL is complete crap. im not a sound freak but this was my 2nd mod i had to do (next to a 2 way alarm). now about a 100lb heavier with 2 12s and amps, but 100 times happier as well.

I'd love to have Focals, but those are EXPENSIVE speakers! I know MB Quart tend to be a little bit shinny, but that's something you can control with a good equalization. I'll do some research on a/d/s though, last time I check on them they were over my budget.

Thanks for the input.

yea the mb quarts are "bright"...

another speaker to consider would be polk momos...or even the kicker ks (mid level) components..also infinity kappa perfects arnt too bad in price..

I put a pair of kappa perfect 4 way's in the rear deck of his 02 lanver, and they had very accurate bass response with clear highs...something to think about

After more research I decided to drop the MB Quart idea and now I have in mind either Infinity Perfect 6.1 for fronts and Infinity 63.5i for rears, or Polk Momo MMC6500 for fronts and Polk Momo MMC650 for rears.

The amp that will power these speakers would be either a JBL GTO75.4 or a Kicker KX650.4.

Any thougths on this new setup?

Thanks.
