My custom mini battery tray

I've been wanting to make a mini battery tray for some time now and finally got around to it this last weekend. There are several reasons why I wanted to do this. 1) There is the obvious weight savings. 2) It makes room for the shorter routed uicp 3) I needed something to do while the fiance had her friends over to discuss wedding details and crap.

It's a very simple design and I spent roughly $10 at ACE Hardware for everything. It might be hard to tell in the pics but I cut up the stock tray and used it for the mounting base. The rest you can pretty much see and is self explanatory for the most part. I ended up rotating the battery 180deg and was able to get the power cables to come around from behind to give it a cleaner look. Overall I think it came out pretty well for what I spent. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right? Anyways, here are some pics.

FYI, I broke the red pos terminal cover some time ago and need to replace it

It's an APS CAI with a Dejon intake pipe between the turbo and maf.

nice setup without the 150 dollar cost.

FYI Your worm drive clamp on the intake pipe is not even close to catching the hardpipe to the turbo. Does it not fit?

Thanks. As for the intake, it's been adjusted since the pic was taken. The intake pipe fits just fine.

The fitment on the APS unit is perfect. No complaints.

Looks Like something you would buy from a Big Name Company, Great work.

can't really tell from the pics..but is the positive terminal pretty close to the wheel well? where the strut bar mounts...you might wanna watch out for that since you said you don't have the cover for it. you never know when something happens and it gets too close to touching the metal part of your car.

good job on dyi though...how much is the total for all that including the battery itself?

The pos terminal is a good couple inches from the wheel well and strut bar. I know its hard to tell from the angle. You're right though, I need to get a cover for it and I won't feel totally comfortable with it until I do. I'm looking into getting a replacement here soon.

The total cost was $105 shipped for the battery with SAE terminals + aprox $10 for the misc parts. Got the battery from here. They have a $20 discount on them right now as well. http://www.gotbatteries.com/items.as...SL105/37L105S5
