Dry Carbon parts

First off, is anyone making dry carbon parts for the Evo?

There was a guy who was selling a duplicate of the dry carbon HKS-TRB-02 (AkA CT230R) for upwards of ten grand a long time ago....but thats not what I was implying.

Astronomically expensive, I know...unnecessary...that too.

But I would like to know if any dry carbon parts exist, mainly the hood and trunk.

Also, I understand the difference between the end result parts...thinner, lighter, stronger.

"Wet" Carbon....wet, two part epoxy, vacuum bagging yields final result.

Im assuming that dry carbon is manufactured with some type of powdered epoxy in a mold and heated to melt the adhesive, but I'd like to know how its made. I cant find much on the 'net.

there are many dry hoods and trunks... all made by japanese manufacturers.

all american racing also makes dry carbon stuff. they're not into retail but custom is no problem i'm sure if you have the dough. tado motorsports also makes tons of dry stuff that is prohibitively expensive.

dry carbon fiber is usually made with preimpregnated carbon fiber. this means that you don't have to apply the epoxy resin to the carbon fiber to make it hold its shape (on the mold)

when you paint on and bake what you end up with is tons of excess material (epoxy) that weighs a lot and it just gets baked on and sanded off somewhat.

in a preimpregnated cloth you have the perfect amount already imbedded in the fiber and you just put it on the mold and vacuum it to hold shape and then bake.

there is also the idea that when you vac it all the excess resins spew out or get sucked out.

the alternative is an autoclave which is a pressurization technique which also holds the fiber onto the mold and instead squeezes out the excesses.

i kno the authentic gialla carbon hood is dry carbon and the hood weights about 3lbs or so and you for sure need to use hood pins with that hood. I believe the hood is somewhere close to 2grand a pop with shipping.

here it is:
