Cleaning wheels?
Cleaning wheels?
When giving my car a basic wash, cleaning the wheels takes longer than the whole rest of the car. Does anyone have any secrets for cleaning wheels more quickly? I have tried several brands of wheel cleaner that claim to be able to clean wheels just by spraying on and rinsing off, but none of them work. What I do is still use a wheel cleaner like that (I am currently using ArmorAll Triple-Acting Wheel Cleaner), but I have to scrub in all the crevices with a ScotchBrite pad. Which takes a while esp considering I am doing the calipers too.
I thought about getting one of those washing mitts figuring actually wearing something on my hand would allow me to get in the crevices better, but I wanted to hear suggestions first.

Actually, I find that the Eagle One wheel cleaner spray work awesome...I spray it on the wheels and let it sit as I wash the rest of the car...Then, just spray off all the soap and wheel cleaner at one time...There will be some stubborn spots that you have to get by hand, but all in all a pretty descent time saver...I recommend their products, Eagle One stuff is affordable and available pretty much everywhere.
Simple green concentrate mixed with water will remove typical grime, dirt and brake dust. Place it in a spray bottle and spray away. But you still need to wash it with some soap and water afterwards.
The dealership just sprayed degreaser on my expensive 3 piece work wheels and peeled off the clear coat on the polished lip. I'm kinda pissed right now but they are giving me a loaner car while they attempt to fix it. If not I would demand that they buy me a new set.

use creamy peanut butter.... it works. a guy i know showed me that a long time ago. just put the peanut butter on the wheels, let it set a while, wash it off. wash rim normally, and bam. sparkling wheels. peanut butter was the only thing that would ever touch his volks.
in case you didn't know, wet dryer sheets work the best for getting bugs off of your car. doesn't matter what brand, they all work the same. wet the car, wet the dryer sheet, rub, wet, rub, wet, then wash normally. just rub till all the bug is gone. works better than anything else i've ever tried.

The dryer sheet I've never heard of and I think its way too rough to be touching painted surfaces. They have bug and tar removers that work just fine.
I cant stand wheel cleaners. they jack up wheels from my experience. Ak47po has a thread about a tool he bought for cleaning wheels. I use a wheel cleaning brush to get the inside and just good ol fashioned elbow grease with a microfiber sponge (designated for wheels) with gold class car wash/water. Gets my wheels very clean. Although my Lancer does not put out the amount of dust the brambos would. Mabey you need to just stay on top of them so it doesnt build up.
dude i'm telling you, dryer sheets are no joke. when you wet them, the chemicals on the sheets make something like a soap. it's very well lubricated, and very smooth. i've been doing it for years now on my accord and my EVO IX MR. if it doesn't work for you, you're not doing it right. the sheets are not rough at all, it's the chemicals on them that are rough. once you wet it though, it becomes like liquid soap. try it, it works. cheapest sheets are just as good as the most expensive. they also seem to get off paint. there were some little spots of paint (no idea where they came from) on my front bumper, and they came off too. took a little more work, but they came off. for stuff like that i'd stick to rubbing compound, but for bugs, tar, tree sap, bird crap, you can't beat dryer sheets. you can get like what 200 of them for like $2? beats paying out the *** for all those spray on chemicals that don't work.
