Just wondering where people are mounting their radar detectors and where your running the wires..

ive got a passport 8500 but it looks pretty ugly with the wire running up from the lighter....

 

I got the 8500 too, I put it near the base of the windshield.

I have a Valentine One and mount it on the visor (plugged into the cigarette lighter). The visor doesn't stay flat so I had to wedge a diaper (no it wasn't used!) to keep it flat. I'll eventually think of somehting else to put there!

I was thinking of behind the rearview or maybe low middle.. and i got the wire kit for it so i dont have to have that ugly wire goin to the cig lighter...

but i dont know where to put the remote for it.. maybe i'll just stash it in the dash somewhere


how hard was it to wire through the AC? i've never pulled a part a dash before.. anything i should know?

it doesnt look off balance, you can get it wired in at best buy for like $25

 

wonder if they'd let me watch em do it.. i want to learn, but i also want it done right.......

i purchased the radar detector @ best buy ,, wonder if they'd hook it up for free


on the best buy note,, if i buy a new Head Unit , one that plays MP3's from them (pushing 50wx4 channels should be good right?)

then they install that for free right? maybe i'll get em to do the radar detector too

 

can anyone feel a less of radar detection when mounted somewhere other than the middle of windshield (like regular ppl would do?)

 

I have a clip on 3 panel wink mirror with the radar detector on top, pretty much dead center in the windshield.

 

Dead center on the windshield will give you the best coverage from rear radar. Front performance is mostly affected by how close to a sun strip (if any) the sensor is.

 

You can put it above the rear view mirror. It is nice and high (for early detection over crests) and not too conspicuous and you can hard wire it dropping down from the dome light area. just be careful that any window tint isn't obscuring the detector because it will reduce range. You can use black vinyl on the outside to compleatly hide it
