Lightbulb Radio relocation complete

Got the lower din part from Mitsu and put the radio where it belongs. Since I already have an Autometer boost gauge on the steering stalk, I didn't want to mount additional gauges up top where the radio used to be. Instead, I installed a din insert which holds cd's or other stuff.

The picture is kinda crappy due to low light but what do you guys think?

Cheers,
Mike

i like it!

could you post the part number for the relocation piece? also, did you have to buy any other parts or bolts, or was just like installing the headunit in the stock location?

The Mitsu part number for the "audio/navigation" relocation kit is:

MZ598263EX (black - evo)

These are the same part but in different colors for the base model, OZ, sportback, etc:

MZ598246EX (beige)
MZ598301EX (beige)
MZ598248EX (grey)
MZ598300EX (grey)

The upper din insert is a "Metra Multi-purpose Pocket" part #88-00-9000, which I bought from autotoys.com.

not sure what the point of that was...

you could have just put the lower din pocket in and had yourself a storage bin...

now you have to reach way down to get at the radio controls...

they only reason i can see reloacting, is to install some gauges, which you obvioulsy are not planning on doing...

The point of moving the radio is 4-fold:

1) the controls are now accessible while my hand is on the shifter (big plus IMO).
2) the radio is more out of sight.
3) the angle of the flip-down panel now allow me to view it.
4) the led display is now readable because there's virtually no glare.

If I still had the stock radio only 1 & 2 would apply.
