Lower DIN panel $19

For what it's worth, the lower DIN panel is available separately from the full install kit.

P/N: MR626799 (black)
Price: $18.46

This does not include the mounting bracket spacers required to use the brackets in the same manner as the upper DIN opening. I'm not quite sure what the $55 kit provides but my Alpine is sitting pretty down there with just the insert and the DIN sleeve.

Sorry folks! I didn't relaize this would cause such a stir.

This is just the DIN panel insert. Once it's in place you simply have a DIN sized opening in place of where the coin box or what ever it is called was. There are no brackets included. IMO they aren't really needed as an DIN sleeve (Alpine at least) will slide in place and clamp down very well. I'm not even using a hanger strap on the back of mine.

I'll snap some pics tonight of the install as well as what is going on behind the scenes with my DIN sleeve.

Yeah, sorry, I guess you could call it a surround or fascia. I'm hung up on the "official" part name that was on my invoice.

Here's a pic of the back of the panel (thanks to Perversity ). All I've got is this panel. Nothing else.

Sorry, BAD LINK

The link to the original how-to is here

I'll try to snap some more specific pics of my install tonight.

Okay, here are some pics. Nothing earth shattering here, but there is a viable alternative to shelling out $55 bucks for the install kit.

I want to keep the radio where it is at, although I want to install some gauges in the lower DIN opening.

Thanx for the part # info. Went to the dealer and picked mine up for $14. My alpine fits like a glove, just like you said. Saved me $70 bucks.
