Need stereo question answered quick!

i went to best buy to get a new headunit with sattelite radio....and after arguing w ith the guy for 5 min. about whether or not my car was a real evo.....he told me that i cannot install just a new head unit because my car has an "infinity" system...and i would have to replace all of the speakers in the car and run all new wire.....is this true?,,,,

go to circuit city...they will know what to do...yes your deck is made by infinity...but why the hell do you have to change all your speakers...it has nothing to do with the swap of the deck

Any after market radio (that has power built in) will work just fine. Just buy the wiring harness so you can adapt the radio wires to the factory plugs (no splicing) and you are good to go. The wiring harness will prolly run you around $12-15.

Good Luck

well i'm not an evo owner, but as a former stereo installer, I can tell you that if the system is an "infiniti system", yes new wire is necessary, each speaker has it's own ampflier which has to be bypassed, so yes you can't just throw a deck in. But I don't think the evo has it, I thought the evo had the same sound as the oz which is just plug and play. So in other words he was half right.

Uhh yes it does, if the deck is made by infiniti, that's one thing, but if it's an infiniti system, you cannot simply add a new deck, without bypassing the speakers individual amplifiers. Usually the easiest bypass for this is running new speaker wire from the new deck to each speaker. Go ahead and argue with mecp on that one.

Ok first of all any single din unit you like will fit in the evo. As far as the wiring goes the deck will come with its own wires. The stock radio hooks up to the car by a connector. You will have to cut the connector to hook up the new radio or the best way is to buy a wiring harness. You can get them from any auto parts store for about 10 - 20 bucks. Then you will just plug in the wiring harness to your factory one and hook the wires from the deck to the harness. Any more questions pm me. I also have a couple of really nice decks for sale if interested.

The evo radio was built by infinity, however, it doesnt have external amplifiers. As a matter of fact as bad as the stock radio I have serious doubts about the amplifiers that are built in.

This has to be about the worst stock radio I have ever encountered. Oh, and the stock speakers are the wonderful whizzer cone variety with the mylar style tweeters in the a-pillars.

Thanks Mitsubishi.

I was never saying you had to run wires in the evo, like I said it is plug and play, all I was saying is that with an infiniti system, you do have to run wires, now it's the end of discussion, I've had about 9 different decks in my oz and it shares the same sound system with the evo based on design.
