Stevo's Custom CT9A Head Lights (Bling Edition)

Well guys,
Im from all the way in Australia and have decided to embark on a crazy mission of modifying my brand new VIII MR head lights. This project has set me back a lot of man hours already for one side and will continue to accumulate more sleepless hours. Not only has it been a demanding project but its also hit the wallet in a big way. About $2800+ so far.

The head lights will be under going major surgery to have donor quad projectors and angel eyes installed in the low and high beam housings. It will run as a dual low beam and single high beam setup.

Aim:

To produce (1) an externally unique looking set of CT9A head lights and (2) produce a light output that will make all BMW's, Merc's, Crysler 300C's and S2000's jealous.

Parts: (all prices inc shipping)
* VIII MR head lights - japanparts.com - $930
* S2000 head lights (sourced for internal projector) – Ozhonda forum - $650
* Infinity FX35 projectors (USDM vehicle) – theretrofitsource.com - $240
* 35w HID kit (4500K) – therpmstore.com - $200
* 55w HID kit (4500K) - therpmstore.com - $240
* Low beam wiring harness - therpmstore.com - $35
* High beam wiring harness - theretrofitsource.com - $45
* 2.5" E46 BMW shrouds/bezel - theretrofitsource.com - $100
* 3" E46 BMW shrouds/bezel – EBay seller: Oem_Xenon_Parts - $115
* Halo kit (low and high beam) – advancedautomotiveconcepts.com - $270

Total price = $2825 AU

Modifications:
* Open up head light using heat gun and 2 x flat head screw drivers
* Remove VIII MR 3" projector (Single Xenon) and install Infinity FX35 2.5" projector (Bi-Xenon) with custom brackets.
* Dremel away most of the high beam reflector and install S2000 2.5" projectors (Single Xenon) with custom brackets.
* Trim the 2.5" E46 BMW shrouds to fit in low beam housing and cover up FX35 projectors
* Trim the 3" E46 BMW shrouds to fit in high beam housing and cover up S2000 projectors
* Repaint both sets of shrouds due to scratches in the chrome. 3 colour options:
- Gold chrome
- Original silver chrome or
- Matte black to match VIIIMR housing
* Install 95mm halo ring in the low beam housing
* Install 105mm halo ring in the high beam housing
* Repaint the "Parker light" housing from silver chrome to matte black
* Dremel all excess metal from Infinity FX35 projector to fit in low beam housing and modify cut off shield to suit left hand drive conditions. Also modify the light output to produce more of the "blue" band at the cut off shield
* Dremel all excess metal from S2000 projector to fit in high beam housing and modify the light output to produce more of the "blue" band at the cut off shield

ChanseEvo8 Dec 29, 2008 12:23 PM

wow, that's a lot of money for some lights lol

blaze9489 Dec 29, 2008 12:42 PM

how much does that translate into for american dollars?

nevermind. under 2,000$ thats ridiculous

typac69 Dec 29, 2008 12:46 PM

bricel24 Dec 29, 2008 02:03 PM

I wouldn't do it myself but definitely huge props to getting these done with a lot of work and money spent.

AlvinHuyN Dec 29, 2008 02:17 PM

Thats awesome work! It would be nice to be able to do it with less $$$ but great non-the-less. If you want to swap a pair of USDM headlights to try let me know, I want a JDM pair (the ones they have everywhere else in the world EXCEPT the US lol)

Evo Tengoku Dec 29, 2008 02:26 PM

sick retro man. =]

dineth00i30 Dec 29, 2008 02:48 PM

wow nice! cant wait to see the finished product. but just under 2 grand for a set of headlights is way too much in my opinion but if you can afford it then why not right?

Billy Dec 29, 2008 02:57 PM

Interesting work!

BTW, from what I understand, the Stanley made OE Lexus LS430's are the width king for single xenon projectors.
