Hi Guys,

So finally get a chance to take some quick pics on my new wheels.

Here is my current set up:

Rota Grid 17 by 9 offset +25 in Hyper Black - wrapped on 235 45 17 (from my stock enkei wheels, now with winter tires)

Interesting story... I picked it up straight from the manufacturing line of Rota in the Philippines. The whole family had an emergency family reunion due to a very very sad event. Anyway, I was able to get away from it for a day so I can pick these wheels up. Just to back track a bit, I googled Rota to find a contact number, and was able to get a hold of the Factory Supervisor – Edgar. Very nice guy. I inquired for Grid – they were available but not in our Evo’s offset. There was DPT on stock and P45R in 17 inch that fits our evo. No Grids. Then a couple of days later, he sent me a text message – he put in a request to make the wheels that I wanted (size and colour) and that they are available for pick up.

So I took the transit there, since my cousins had to attend to their son’s prepschool graduation. I got there no problem, but going home was hard. Here I was standing on a sidewalk of a busy street, with 4 boxes of wheels, 250 pesos in my wallet and a bunch of credit cards. I was so worried that someone would punch me in the face and steal my sh1t. But luckily, noone did. :P an Hour later, my sister with her friend who had a car arrived to pick me up. I couldnt take the transit home since I had 4 big boxes with me, or negotiate for a taxi because my 250 pesos couldnt get me anywhere.

So yeah, I packed these baby up nicely so the wheels wouldnt be curbed while in transit. When we arrived, I applied some sealant to protect the wheels from brake dust and stuff. Then my buddy mounted them on my stock tires and installed it on the Evo.

all it needs is a drop {thumbup}

haha i knew someone would comment on the stock height.

i plan to run the stock bilstein mr shocks on swift or gtwork springs. thats in my current wish list.

needs thicker and lower profile tires, you were lucky you did not get robbed in Manila.

Nice Josel, even if they are 6-spoke! :p You definitely need a drop! come on down and we'll help you install them; very easy!

Drop and repost. Concavity on those is more extreme looking than my 17x9 DPT's from the pics, especially in the Hyper black color. I just couldnt bare with those huge spaces inbetween 6 spoke design nor did they have gold available at the time. Keep it going and get those springs. I wouldve dropped her before the shoes but thats just me. Hope youre enjoying them and like stated above get some wider tires.

How much did it cost you to get these back? Was it cheaper than ordering them from WheelDude?

i paid 30k pesos which translates to less than $700CAD. I didnt have to pay extra for check in baggages/taxes/custom fees. nothing like that.

i think my visit at the plant is priceless though. i was able to walk around the factory and stuff. the worker's uniform was white shirt and takata green pants. at the time, they were loading a 40 foot trailer. Edgar told me its actually wheeldude's order that's on its way to the states. :) sorry no pics because i didnt have a camera with me.

if i get them from wheel dude, it will be around $800USD for the set plus shipping (which could be more if i have them shipped in canada). i also have to deal with taxes/import charges BS at the border...

yahu - well there were five of us. we were allowed to have 2 check in baggage/person. the wheels were really light. they weight 9.2lbs. so we packed it really well with our clothes and filipino goodies!

Congrats to your new wheels my buddy. Good story as well. I would feel the same way if i were in your position. You are very lucky nothing nothing happen to you when you are waiting for your cousin to pick you up. Your lola must be your guardian angel. Good experience over all. Where's my pasalubong bro? LOL.

now you need some 255/40-17's :)
