From W83 to LP2 Progress thread!! Nose chop, paint booth, rahrahrah

Primed Mini Update (Shift boot, gauge relocation, reprime) Some COLOR on the jams Well... my car like many others on here makes a good amount of power and I love driving it, but I decided it was time to do something a bit different. I will outline the process of my car going from stock Weightless(?) White to Midnight Purple 1. I chose Midnight Purple 1 because it is the least flashy and flamboyant of the lot, and that matches my goal here. Simple, clean, and different. First task was to turn my small garage into a paint booth. To accomplish this I needed to make a positive pressure ventilation system that would keep overspray from landing back on the car and creating "nibs". I also had a bit of bodywork to do. The person that drove this car before me had some bodywork done and whoever didi it rushed and did a piss poor job. This took time because I wanted the line of the bumper/hood to match. I chose to use a hack saw to chop out the triangle. I have never used this product before, but I have to say I like it. Remember when doing this you will use many many many coats but you will also be sanding off 90% of what you apply. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0139-1.jpg 80 grit for shaping. Be careful not to hit the plastic with this. Scratches in ABS can be tough to remove. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0140-1.jpg Fabbed a piece to connect the top secion of the bumper. Not really necessary, but it made me feel better. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0142.jpg Sanded and shaped from 80grit, 180, 220, and then glazing to get rid of any pitting from the bondo... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0143.jpg After glaze dries, sand with 320grit and wipe area down with presol. Filler primer is next. Again, not necessary, but this will fill and heavy sand scratches I may have missed, and having everything a uniform color will help find imperfections in my work. Wiped... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0144.jpg Filler Primer... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0145.jpg **I did a bit more shaping after this because I was unhappy with the lines, but you get the idea** Next before I can use epoxy primer over the whole car, the bare metal needs to be etch primed. This stuff is very toxic. Respirator is highly recommended for this... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0146.jpg This is where the tire pressure/mercury warning stickers were. The guy before me attempted to remove them and did a terrible job. I just sanded through the grit to rid the area of ll that nasty glue, etc. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0148.jpg A teenage girl backed into me while I was inside a gas station so the hood needed a bit of attention, and there was some bare metal showing... http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0149.jpg Everything taped off. You'll notice the taping job looked so-so. Etch priming is not a huge deal.
