Some COLOR on the jams

Well... my car like many others on here makes a good amount of power and I love driving it, but I decided it was time to do something a bit different. I will outline the process of my car going from stock Weightless(?) White to Midnight Purple 1. I chose Midnight Purple 1 because it is the least flashy and flamboyant of the lot, and that matches my goal here. Simple, clean, and different.

First task was to turn my small garage into a paint booth. To accomplish this I needed to make a positive pressure ventilation system that would keep overspray from landing back on the car and creating "nibs". I'm not going to lay out the math equation used to figure out how much CFM you need per cubic foot of space, but basically 2 box fans on low provide just the right amount for what I need.

Second one...

Finished

When prepping for paint, you want to remove as much of the paint as possible. I also had a bit of bodywork to do. The person that drove this car before me had some bodywork done and whoever didi it rushed and did a piss poor job. I sanded down and corrected what was wrong...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0122-1.jpg

Entire car was hit with 220, and then 320 before priming...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0120-1.jpg

Also installed some additional lighting...

Next on the list was a nose chop. This took time because I wanted the line of the bumper/hood to match. I chose to use a hack saw to chop out the triangle. This way you can go slow and be precise.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0124-1.jpg

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0125-1.jpg

Removed all the paint so pieces can be bonded...

Trimming edges...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0127.jpg

I could have splurged on a piece of flat abs plastic, but I just spent $1900.00 on paint so I was feeling a little jew-like...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0129.jpg

Outline and cut...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0130-1.jpg

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0131-1.jpg

Plastic welded and epoxied in place...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0133.jpg

Trimming access off...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0134.jpg

On the bottom I used regular fiberglass-fiber and resin, however on the top I used "Bondo-glass". I have never used this product before, but I have to say I like it. Its nice and flexible and very easy to work with.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0135.jpg

Activator.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0137.jpg

First coat of many to follow. Remember when doing this you will use many many many coats but you will also be sanding off 90% of what you apply.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0139-1.jpg

80 grit for shaping. Be careful not to hit the plastic with this. Scratches in ABS can be tough to remove.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IMG_0140-1.jpg

Fabbed a piece to connect the top secion of the bumper. Not really necessary, but it made me feel better.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0142.jpg

Sanded and shaped from 80grit, 180, 220, and then glazing to get rid of any pitting from the bondo...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0143.jpg

After glaze dries, sand with 320grit and wipe area down with presol. Filler primer is next. Again, not necessary, but this will fill and heavy sand scratches I may have missed, and having everything a uniform color will help find imperfections in my work.
Wiped...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0144.jpg

Filler Primer...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0145.jpg

**I did a bit more shaping after this because I was unhappy with the lines, but you get the idea**

Next before I can use epoxy primer over the whole car, the bare metal needs to be etch primed. This stuff is very toxic. Respirator is highly recommended for this...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0146.jpg

This is where the tire pressure/mercury warning stickers were. The guy before me attempted to remove them and did a terrible job. I just sanded through the grit to rid the area of ll that nasty glue, etc.
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0148.jpg

A teenage girl backed into me while I was inside a gas station so the hood needed a bit of attention, and there was some bare metal showing...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0149.jpg

Everything taped off. You'll notice the taping job looked so-so. Etch priming is not a huge deal. Just need something to bite into the metal before epoxy based primer is applied.

Coat 2...
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s/IMG_0153.jpg

Teaser. Enkie RPF1's 18x9.5 +15 with Hoosier 255/35/18

More to follow. Car will be completely painted by this time next week!

Thank you guys so much for all the compliments. This process takes a lot of time and is killing my back :crap:. We're getting closer though! Heres some updates from today!

Feathered the etching primer - I apologize no pics of this process.

Re cleared my seibon cf trunk and faded wing.

And a few more teaser pics of the wheels {thumbup} I love these things. They looks so damn aggressive. I want to flare the fenders but I'm a bit confused how to go about doing it without a fender roller.
