EVO 8/9 Fender Flares by AWB Motorsports

5 Attachment(s)
I've been talking to Daren at AWB Motorsports about manufacturing fender flares for our EVO's, similar to the Karlton style fender flares that the STI's run. Anyways, he wants to know what the market would be over here in the states. I for 1 would be very interested as I would like to run some meaty 285's or bigger and still maintain a functional stance.

Sooo....would anyone else be interested in this besides myself??

Here is the look he will be replicating.

I know a lot of people in Australia would definitely be interested!

Hideous IMO {thumbdwn}

yeah I'm not much for fender flares/wide body but if someone wants to make parts for our cars then more power to them.

Glad this trend didn't catch on with the Evo yet. :}

I personally think it's a more cleaner look than say...the Cyber EVO widebody kit. I like the look of stanced EVO's but driving with slammed cars is beginning to get old to me, with these, you would be able to maintain a resonable hieght and still look awesome. Plus it wouln't be as hard on the wallet. This would make a cheaper solution for people that are tracking their EVO's which is already costly as it is.

I just want to see what kind of interest we can get for these. I'm sure if we can get enough people that are interested, he will start producing them.

I would love to see how it looks and the more options the better.

I would definitely be interested! This would be a cheaper option to run wider tires. Function > Form

I would potentially be interested depending on price and fitment. After fitting my 18x10.5 +30 with a 285/30 tire my rear quarters have seen better days. The only catch is they will probably require the quarters to be cut to gain clearance if you're actually trying to use these and at that point with body work and paint I can see the cost increasing dramatically all said and done.

But certainly interested more options to fit wide rubber is always a good thing!

I'm going to try making a mock up fender flare this weekend to see what it looks like. The hard part is going to be the front fender. I have a 19x10.5 rim on 265's sitting around so I'm going to use that as a reference. I'll make the front fenders first and post up pics, then I'll work on the rears.

Keep us posted on the progress.

This was a project I was going to try and tackle last year. Just don't have the time. I personally am a big fan of the karlton flare on the STI. Wouldn't mind something similar for us. Just a most cost effective to get more grip. Don't get me wrong I love the voltex widebody but it's a bit out of my budget.

i was going this route when i had my WRX. i'd be all OVER a set of these for my IX, as long as the price isn't too crazy. i've been all over the internet for years waiting for someone to make them.
i'm not into the voltex rears so this would be a nice alternative for me.
these are great for people looking for a performance upgrade, but i don't think the show guys will be interested.

i was going to try a set of universal flares.. the front did pose a problem because of the lack of flat surface above the top of the wheel arch. i can see that being difficult.
i guess the WRX front fender wasn't any better.

Yup...I made a few cardboard mock ups while at work this morning using some universal fender flare dimensions to see if any would work and when I took them outside that's the first thing that I noticed.

I by no means have any idea what I'm doing with fiberglass but I have a buddy that does carbon fiber/ sheetmetal/ and fiberglass repairs on Aircraft and he is begging to try making a set of these.
