anyone know if this will clear the bumpers?

beautiful exhaust mang :) i can't tell, but does it taper at the end?

93civEJ1 Aug 17, 2004 12:38 PM

nice.

[Cyanide] Aug 17, 2004 12:40 PM

I have the same exhaust, and no, it doesn't clear the bumper.

Here's a pic of it on my car:

I have the same one. With the rolled lip. Get yourself a bumper shield before it melts. The black stuff comes off but my white bumper is a little yellow at the closest point to the muffler from the heat. The yellow won't come off. Don't wait, buy a heat shield now.

Same with mine. The yellow closest does not come off. I bought the StreetImage Carbon fiber shield to combat this.

The tip doesn't clear the bumper. It's shy by about an inch or so. Are you referring to the piping tapering from 80mm (3.15") down to 76mm (3") to meet the cat? If so, the piping does taper on the midpipe (not pictured) right before the cat.

I still need to take pics of it on the car… just haven't got around to it. I'll do it tonight when I get off work.

WhatNoise??? Aug 17, 2004 02:39 PM

Cuprsnel and Hooptie… are you guys just running the catback or are you running downpipe, cat delete/hi-flow cat?

I know Cyanide is running a 3" dp and cat. One of his sound clips was one of my determining factors in wanting this exhaust. Sounds mean! {thumbup}

eclipsegs2k1 Aug 17, 2004 03:10 PM

looks really nice man, try and get us some pics of it on your car!

Actually since then, I've taken off my UR 3" hi-flow cat & replaced it with UR's 3" test pipe. Sounds meaner now :)

Nice! I'm running just the catback now. I have a Perrin test-pipe, but I'm waiting on the Perrin dp to get here to put them both on. I can't wait to hear it with the dp and cat-delete. Should sound pretty sick!

You should post up another clip with your test pipe on now. The clip where you dropped your entire exhaust was funny as hell. Your laugh was crackin' me straight up!

Yeah it sounds badass now, I'll make another video soon. I still need a video of my car in motion in the daytime hauling ass. Preferably through a tunnel or something like that.

I started my car up with just the downpipe when I switched my hi-flow cat out, now THAT sounded even better. I should've taken video of that.

Thanks! I actually don't recall the brand. It's been a few years since I purchased them. "Elite" rings a bell, but don't quote me on that…

BTW…Thanks for the suggestion on the heat shield, cuprsnel and Hooptie! {thumbup}

I ordered the Street Image shield today. It should ship next week sometime.

Hooptie157 Aug 18, 2004 06:02 AM

I'm running the B&B DP, RMR test pipe, and Greddy Ti.

KZEVO Aug 18, 2004 07:11 AM

thanks for posting the pictures. we were talking about the rolled lip a couple weeks back and we thought it might have been a redesign to bring the tip closer to the outside of the bumper. Doesn't look like they did that. Mine is pretty much where yours sits

KZEVO Aug 18, 2004 07:18 AM

i read the first page too now and to answer a couple questions

u will not burn the bumper with just the cat back. I had it for 2 months and all it did was put the carbon on the bumper which would wash off. But now with a test pipe and downpipe it soots up really bad but is wipeable. My bumper paint is a little burnt now cuz i was throwin' flames at the track :D with my combo. i'll get the carbon fiber shield but need to know first if that will burn or not. I'm not really concerned as it doesn't show much on a black car.

For all those ppl still contemplating on the Greddy. Yes it may be loud but it's one of the best sounding exhausts. I've got props from everyone that has heard it. At idle its not bad but it's a beast at WOT and really deep throated in the low to mid range. have no regrets and love the exhaust.

i'm running the 3 inchUR test pipe and cat delete.

WhatNoise??? Aug 18, 2004 11:11 AM

I ordered a Perrin cat-delete from VividRacing along with a Perrin dp. Unfortunately, the dp wasn't in stock, so I'm sitting here with only the testpipe waiting for the dp to be drop-shipped directly from Perrin. :(

I'm sure the sound will be quite a bit different with the downpipe and testpipe installed. I was thinking the GReddy would sound a bit deeper, but I completely dig the tone. I'm running an Apex N1 on my GSX that's in the background of the first couple of pics. It sounds much deeper than the Evo. It could be just the combination of the other crap that's done to it.

jotan82 Aug 18, 2004 12:05 PM

very sexy exhaust, looks even better on the car!

value Aug 18, 2004 04:30 PM

I like the rolled tip now after seeing it on the car.

StreetImage EVO Aug 18, 2004 07:15 PM

Holy Moly!! That exhaust looks beautiful. {thumbup}

Hooligan317 Aug 19, 2004 09:10 AM

so this bolts up to the stock cat? pricing?

JDMpianoguy Aug 19, 2004 09:27 AM

Hooligan317 needs the Greddy TI!

Hooligan317 Aug 19, 2004 10:13 AM

indeed. make it so.

outsider Aug 19, 2004 11:10 AM

wow... the tip actually looks pretty good .. shows off the exhaust a bit more than with my original greddy ti exhaust

Hooligan317 Aug 19, 2004 11:17 AM

well i'm looking forward to seeing it on my car next week!

Evol_I Aug 19, 2004 11:21 AM

I love mine, though, I prefer the rolled tip version to my straight one... Sound-wise, what do you boyz prefer: resonator/silencer in or out?

have never used the silencer. Just drive at low revs if I don't want to be noticed

WhatNoise??? Aug 19, 2004 05:31 PM

I've never given the silencer a shot either. How does it sound? Did you notice a considerable drop in power?

The most common price I've seen is right around $900 USD. However, Arnold at Street Image is doing a group buy on this exhaust. Check it out!

GReddy Ti Group Buy

KZEVO Aug 20, 2004 10:50 AM

You can get it for around 850 - 900 shipped, just gotta shop around.

I am running the perrin DP and UR Cat. It does sound nice and low but a little loud for my taste at times. My girlfriend laughs everytime I start my car. She thinks its too loud. The only time I think it is too loud is when you are on the highway with the windows rolled up and you step on it. The sound just resonates through the whole car and it is LOUD.

As far as the silencer that someone mentioned. I did try it and it does make a significant difference but I took it out after trying it. Why buy a 3" pipe from the turbo back to just stuff a restrictor in the end?

Evol_I Aug 20, 2004 12:00 PM

In addition to quieting the exhaust somewhat, the silencer makes the tone deeper ( from inside the car), especially at WOT. Depending on who you believe, it may either help out the low-end at the expense of the top end, but since my ride is stock( except for the GReddy Ti, of course ), I didn't really notice much difference in power with it in or out.

WhatNoise??? Aug 20, 2004 02:28 PM

Too funny! No, I'm not sponsored by or work for Coke®. I do drink it though. I was just using the can as a size comparison to the exhaust diameter, etc. :)

Good to know, man. Thanks! I've just never given it a shot because the silencer looks like it chokes down to less than 2 inches. I'll give it a shot sometime just for fun. :)

I haven't had any issues yet. It's been nearly a year and a half.

I can get sound clips from my greddy TI if some peeps still want it

boostedwrx Dec 26, 2005 08:10 PM

How could you extend it a little bit? Is there any adapter plate we could stick in between one of the flanges to extend it an inch or so?

WhatNoise??? Dec 26, 2005 08:21 PM

A good muffler shop that knows what it's doing should be able to extend the system … but remember it's titanium. I've heard welding onto titanium can be tricky. I'm not sure if it would be easiest to add a bit to the end of the dowpipe or maybe lengthen one end of the cat or testpipe.

A heat shield is an option, too. Or you could go all out and just get a JDM IX rear. :D

boostedwrx Dec 26, 2005 08:27 PM

Its almost like you if you could just take another flange plate (the part that gets welded on to the tubing) and put it in the middle. Probably need longer bolts and what not and another gasket or two.

I had the same exhaust and extended it by 2 inches. You do not touch the Ti exhaust... all you have to do is weld the test pipe if you have one. Add a 1-2 inch extension on it and it works good. if you want I have one for sale.. it was welded by a shop for like 60 bucks. BTW its a invidia test pipe.

boostedwrx Dec 26, 2005 09:27 PM

Yea I just dunno... Im trying to keep the exhaust on my MR as quiet as possible (last 03 was 3" UR catless but yea right keeping quiet with a Greddy TI though huh, hahah)

I may want to stick with the stock cat and see what my gains are. I'll have to see if anything can be done to the stock cat or maybe get a high flow one. I do have one of those little SS heatshields (http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...p?productid=86) but am just not too happyh with putting holes in the new car type thing... Making a cat longer seems probably seems like a better option as long as it doesnt push everything including the hangers up too far out of reach.
