I don't understand why it would make the clunking noise? I'm not doubting you on this, but other people thought it was the spring and put that rubber tube on the top and it fixed the problem. How are we sure that this is the problem? Mine pisses me off it seems to get worse everyday.

Another thing I forgot to mention. If this stablizer link gets damaged due to crappy bumpy roads then why is it only the drivers side link? why not both passenger and drivers side. It just doesn't add up.

I had two Evolution 7 one with 7000miles and another with 3000miles, both developed the same cluncking noise on irregular roads. As you can imagine the stupid Mitsu mechanic told me that it is a normal noise.
Mitsubishi doesn't care about its customers.

If you get a chance have a mechanic check your stabilizer link. Once its removed try rotating it. it should be very tight if its still ok. you can also hear that clunking noise from it. try it.

Is the stablizer link something we should have fixed quickly? As I mentioned before the clunking noise happens daily and if it breaks while I'm doing 75mph mitsu will have a lawsuit on their hands. So basically my question is will this harm anything if we just let it clunk, or should we replace this as soon as possible?

Maybe your heirs will have a lawsuit? If it fails, your car's rear end is going to get extremely loose and, in an abrupt accident avoidance manuver, you could lose control of the vehicle. I am not saying it's in danger of breaking, only describing what could happen if it does break. A friend disconected the front bar of his Miata at an autocross once, just to see the effect and the car was basically undriveable (in a competive auto-X-he could put-put around in it).

PROBLEM SOLVED (for me at least)

I've had this problem for a while too. I have an 03 evo. My friend has an 04 and I noticed his is totally quiet and smooth over bumpy areas on the road - so I assumed this is a problem only with 03s and it was fixed in the 04 generation.

That being said, there is probably a TSB (technical service bulletin) to solve this problem. I haven't gone to a dealer to ask if there is one yet. I will in a week or two when i go to get my oil filter. A TSB they will replace the part that is making the problem under warranty. I believe it to be the front springs. The toyota avalon 04 has a TSB for changing the front springs because it may make suspension noise of 'washboard surfaces'.

I solved this problem for my car by putting maybe about 4 inches in length of rubber hose around the bottom of the spring where it coils around and almost touches itself (as was talked about in previous posts).

You guys can go get the springs replaced or do something simple like I did and not take the risk of them f'ing up your car (like scratching it).
