hey guys,

i want to purchase the following rims for my 2006 Evo IX SE...

Volk RE - 30
Bronze
5 x 114.3 bolt pattern
18 x 9.0"
+50mm Offset

but i'm a bit of a newbie and not sure if the +50mm offset will be an issue with clearance on both calipers and/or suspension. can you guys help me figure out if i will require spacers or not? i'm planning on purchasing them this weekend if they do fit.

thanks in advance!

Just looking at some rims they are 17x7.5 with +48 offset. Does anyone know if that's too much offset? Please let me know

its 16mm closer to the suspension, but the wheel is an inch narrower than stock...i dunno why you would want to do that at all.

No good for an Evo without spacers. It's actually just 4mm closer to the suspension, but it will be sunk in 16mm more than stock and will make your car look like a base model Camry or Mirage. Plus the 7.5" width is weak.

Stockers are 17x8 +38mm FYI.

I highly recommend you pass on this and tell him to sell them to someone with a Honda.

FYI, Enkei RPF1's 17x8.5 +30 offset with 245/45/17 Dunlop Starspecs have clearance issues. Front wheels rub on back side when turned into the wheel well. The rubbing does not seem severe but I will have to see what the damage is after they have been on the car a while.

Does anybody have an idea why I'm having problems? 245/45/17's were said to fit properly by several members. Would 245/45/17's sit differently on 8" wide wheels vs 8.5" wide? I would think the width and height would be the same.

245/45 is a little taller than a 235/45, so that's probably why it rubs. I'll bet it looks a little goofy too. They will sit differently on 8" vs 8.5" wheels, but it's a very slight difference and is not the cause of the problem. Also, keep in mind that not every 245/45 is the same size, there is a fair amount of variance on all tires, especially on R-compound tires. What Yokohama calls a 235/45 may be a different width AND height compared to what Continental thinks it should be.

You really should just stick to 235/45 or 255/40.

Won't the width of the 255 tire cause problems as well, or will the difference in height be enough?

It's a delicate balance. it depends on what part of the tire is rubbing and where.

I have run 255/40s on a 17x9 +30 setup and a 17x9 +28 setup without problems, and I've seen plenty of people on here say that they run them on stock wheels without issues.

+1 With jbrown, the tire height is the issue here. Ive run 255/35 on 18x9 +29 and 255/40 on stock bbs with zero problems and that's even on Dunlop star specs which run large for their sizing

how well will 18x10+25 wheels with 275/35/18 tires fit on an evo 9? also, im parting out an evo x, and was wondering if 245/40/18 tires would fit those wheels? friend im probably selling to with an evo 9 doesn't want race tires, but does want my new street tires.

Try the Continental Extreme Contact DW (not DWS). It's pretty decent. Definitely not in the sticky league of a Star Spec or Advan Neova, and definitely not as good as the stock tires, but it's pretty solid in the rain and way more durable than any of those tires.
