Pepboys or OEM Brakes

Hello everyone,

I need to order new pads today and i'm just looking for some guidance. Currently have the hawk hps pads which lasted very long but squealed like crazy. So I don't need high performance pads since I only do daily driving, my options are the oem pads or pepboys has the prostop platinum pads. Anyone use the pepboys pads and can give feedback? I obviously know how the oem's perform but they dont last long.

Thanks

Do not do it. I've never had an auto part store pad on the Evo that was any good. They fade immediately.

There are other options. I would look into Satisfied GranSport 5 or 6s, ET500, and a few others (listed in my brake sticky).

Ok.. so those pads your recommending are good for daily driving? I don't need anything crazy since I don't do the track.

The auto parts brakes are just fine. They will have many options of the grade of brakes you want to get. I ran the ceramics and loved them. They are going to be better than oem forsure. I would buy another set any day. As for brake fade you need to ask your self what your using the car for. If its track racing you might get to under stand what brake fade is but if you are daily driving you can and playing with it everynow and again you would never tell. Like any aftermarket brakes they are all different. Some will last a long time others eat your rotors and others with make little or no noise. The ceramics like to warn up so first stop after the car sits you migt get a little noise but they are great. Quiet. Last a long time and really in my opinion great for our cars and more made for something of Evo performance. I would put them on anyones car who wanted nice brakes that do a really good job at stopping. I think I got my.pads from oriley. Shucks is what its also called and checkers.

I'm with Smike, the RacingBrake ET500's make for a very good daily driver pad.

Yes, all DD pads.

And I disagree about auto parts store pads. I've driven enough Evos with them to know I don't like them and do not recommend them.

I bought some Monroe rear brake pads in the summer of 2008, they have held up pretty good since, good bite, no noise, very little dust & I put them in w/ new rotors too.....

i was surprised to know they made stuff for Evo's, I thought they only made Shocks....

You are basing this statement off of the fact that you ran them in the rear? The majority of the stopping power comes from the front brakes so I find it hard to believe that you would even be able to give an honest opinion on things such as bite.

To the OP: Please do yourself a favor and listen to SmikeEvo. He is a wizz when it comes to this topic and is obsessed with brakes. Please refer to the following bible which was composed by none other than the man himself

OEM is pricy. Pepboys pads are probably not going to satisfy you if you have ever used OEM or a good pad.
