True OEM strut vs. "aftermarket OEM" strut?

Has anyone installed any "aftermarket OEM" struts, if so what were they and what has been your experience? I don't want a noticeable downgrade but figure a higher end OEM knockoff must be similar and much less expensive. I searched and found nothing. I also don't want coilovers; I just want to replace my 120,000 mile original struts and find the $280 pricetag for each OEM strut kinda crazy. I use it as a DD. Bring on the flames

A new set of Bilstein HD struts will set you back just under $800. One of the best investments you can make, IMO. And throw on a set of Swift springs while you're at it.

Yup, the only real aftermarket options are Bilstein HDs, which are very close the OEM Bilsteins (and very good).

And Ohlins for almost 2 grand, but I'm not sure those are even offered anymore.

For a base Lancer.

Your options for the Evo are OEM KYBs, Bilstein MRs, or Bilstein HDs.

Evo has different suspension than the base Lancer.

KYB GR-2 Shock (which is not available from anyone I trust):

ES:
Manufacturer Part #: 341342

Evo:
Manufacturer Part #: 341349

------------
Your options are OEM KYB, Bilstein MR, or Bilstein HD.
