Low Speed Popping - Check Your Power Steering Lines!

Recently I had the:

Clutch replaced
FSB installed
Coated downpipe
Oil pan
Car aligned

all swapped on the car - afterwards, I'm getting an intermittent low speed popping from the car. Any ideas on what this could be?

it's not:
- fsb or endlinks
- exhaust
- RPM dependent
- tires
- springs binding
- doesn't happen in idle, only rolling at low speeds, slowing down or speeding up
- doesn't happen with wheels in the air - only wheels on the ground

shop has confirmed checking/tightening/can't immediately see something off with:

- cv joins
- ball joints (no play)
- tie rod ends - no play
- bolts hold subframe - no indication of issue
- control arm bolts - no play, they are tight
- wheel bearings - no play

so it only happens when I'm rolling. I can be in gear or neutral, accelerating or coasting. However, I've never experienced the sound going over a speed bump for example

Can you hear the pop, or is it just something you feel?

both. the sound is much quieter than going over a bump on the road, but the feel is what sets it apart from just a normal exhaust burble

Check to make sure the rear roll stop engine mount is tight. Unfortunately it's hard to get to with the transfercase in the car.

yes, the mount attaches to the transmission, just like the front roll stop mount. So it would have been removed to remove the trans.

gotcha - would kind of frequency would that noise have? intermittent, semi-regular, rises and falls with rpms?

I took a video this morning - I wasn't sure the sound would come out or not, but I took a listen and it did. i'll post it shortly

I would happen if the engine/trans rocks back and forth. so on/off throttle, any bump that's enough to move the engine/trans, etc...

It could also be any number of things loose. But I know that mount transmits a lot of NVH to foot well and pedals if you replace it with polyurethane. Makes sense that if it was left loose by accident, you would feel its looseness in the pedals or in the foot well.

That's what it sounds like. Is the down pipe new, or did you have your old one coated?

old one coated. shop did suggest there was a good amount of play in the exhaust, so I should definitely check/bang around there, which I will definitely do. that said, I would think it'd happen at idle and not just rolling (and idling), so I'm not sure it could be exhaust. im usually in neutral when I'm rolling to a stop so in essence I'm idling and it's happened, so why not sitting and idling?

There could be very minor bumps in the road that you don't feel making it move around.

Your best is to get under the car and look everything over.
