100-ish Treadwear

My R888's are toast. I'm looking for some decent tires for track/road course, but with optional rain duty in a 265/35/18. The R888R looks like a dud, or at least the same as the R888 with less rain handling. The RA-1 looks awesome, even being long in the tooth, but only come in an 275/35/18, and when I last used a 275/35 on the 18x9.5 +35 it rubbed even after rolling and pulling. NT01, same 275/35, but maybe the 265/40 would be okay, still no rain option. A048's look promising, but I have not heard much about them. Are there options I'm missing?

Where did you hear the R888r is a dud? I've heard its a great tire. Much better than the R888.

I have the same predicament as you when I got to 18" track wheel. Not a lot of options in 265/35. Have you looked at the Maxxis RC1?

Have not looked at the 595s.

I've read around on different forums and reviews, that it's a dud in terms of they heat cycle out before the tread wears down, and no rain tread. I'd just go to the NT01 if they had the size in that case, as both have no rain option.

I looked at the Maxxis, no rain tread.

I'm looking for rain tread because it rust rains out of nowhere in Florida.

The 595RS-R certainly has a rain spec attached to it. The 595RS-RR does not!

Anyway, understand if the reviews youve looked at were not favorable. I always ran the NT01's on the track & the Feds on the street

Gotcha. I missed the need for rain use part.

Also, 265/40r18 likely won't fit, that's a super tall tire.

How do you use the car? The Bridgestone RE71r has similar traction capabilities on the NT01, it just gets hot/greasy after 1-2 laps on a road course.

Do you know if they got greasy with pressure? If the pressures are lowered do the RE-71R's get any better?

If you are spendy you might consider the new Yokohama A052 which replaced the A050 which replaced the A048.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...R&autoModClar=

Friend was running the previous A050 - was not available in NA and not DOT legal - and thought it was the shizzle .... A052 is DOT and available in the US.

Hankook TD Z221 is available on Ebay. They come in different compounds, not so much treadwear ratings.

Ended up with the RE-71R's. We will see how long it takes to burn through them, then maybe I'll have the funds to do a 10.5" or 10" wheel with 285/30's. Until then I'll play with these I guess.

Sorry, didn't see this. Its simply heat. One of the autocross guys in the motorsports section posted about talking to a Bstone engineer at a SOLO Nats event, and the max temp for the compound is like 140-150* IIRC, Where as my NT01's come ine after a semi cool down lap at 165-175..

I never check my tire temp after a session. I guess there's certainly some good info to learn there. I did this past year on RS4's, and since it's a street tire, I know its also a compromise.

The RS4's are pretty good btw, they just make a *hit ton of noise when you push them.
