Brakes squealing like hell
i had a set of fereodo 2500. by the time they were at 75% i could no longer take the squeak (and lack of shim thanks to previous owner) so i picked up endless ss-s pads and they took care of the horrid noise.
i get a little squeek out of them during light braking but the difference isnt even noticable after the 2500s

After all that, they are still squealing. lol Right after I did my thing the screeching was like 10x worse, but it has settled back down to near the same level of squealing it was at before.
I think it's time for some new brake pads.

The weather was rather nice and I drove it for about 5 miles with easy braking.

Oh well, that fixes the problem 95% of the time. I gotta think its some wierd interaction with the aftermarket rotors, providing you have shims. You might try some new pads.... Also try to get a new anti rattle clip, the spring thing that goes under the caliper pin, maybe that has lost some of its spring.
You could also try some aftermarket anti squeel goop that goes on the back of the pad. Get one of the products that dries to a rubber like consistancy it should help to dampen the pad. BG, I think, makes a product that goes on the friction surface of the pad. Follow instructions when using this product.
You can also try puting a camfor (sic?) on the leading edge of the pad. Look at a stock pad to get some idea of the angle.
I have the 2500's with absolutely no squeel. Here is my entire brake story. I smoked a set of stock pads on the track. They got hot enought that some material broke off the pad and got stuck between the pad and the rotor causing some minor groves. Oddly enought the brakes never severly faded, go figure. I turned just a couple of thousands off the rotors and put a very rough surface finish on them. I took the stock pads, knocked the dust off of them and scraped them on some rough concrete (equal to about 50 grit sandpaper) to get the stuck on material and to brake what every glaze might have been on them. I ran these around with moderate braking (no granny stopping) untill most of the finishing marks were gone from the rotors. I then installed the Ferodo pads and immedately bedded them in at the track with the same fade and smoking that you had. I have absolutely no squeeking and the pads preform flawlessly at the track. Hard 30min sessions are no problem.
I used generous amounts of permitex copper anti-seize on the back of the pads and the slides.
hope this helps.

I suppose I could try a new copper spring too, that's another thing I haven't tried.
I do have all the shims in place and I'm currently using Permatex anti-seize on the pads and the shims. I've got two sets of pads, the Ferodo DS2500s and I have a set of EBC Greenstuff pads. I have tried all of my hopeful fixes on both sets but they both squeal. I chose to leave the DS2500 pads installed because I like the way they feel compared to the EBC. I'm thinking either my rotors don't like the pads I have, or both sets of pads I have are hosed. I have abused both sets so that scenario wouldn't surpise me at all. I could try swapping in the stock rotors. They'll vibrate like hell but that might help me troubleshoot the problem further.
I'd type out my brake story here but its way longer than I want to type right now. lol
I'll have to pick up some of those copper springs and if those don't help I'll see if a new set of pads helps. Thanks for the info.

i had a similar issue so i tryed turning the rotors and putting some bg stop squeal on the pads....didnt work then i decided i'd need new pads, so i ordered them and negative still squealed like a stuck pig so i tried the heat them up like crazy and then drive normal for a bit walla no more squeal lets just hope it stays that way
Sometimes when you got squeel, the basic countermeasures are, grease, resurface disk, or new retaining clips.... if this doesn't work then I would suggest changing parts, disks and pads etc...
It seems like you greased all the right places, pad abutments, shims and/or backing plates......
Even after, sometimes you can't get rid of it....some calipers will squeel more than others (they actually are ALL the same), since it being frequency based, it also depends on many factors, which makes it the SUCK for designers to get rid of.....
FYI brembo's are also notorious for squeel issues... mine always squeel in reverse

I also have a high pitched noise coming from the front brakes, but it happens when i an not on the brakes. As soon as I step on the pedal and hit the brakes, the noise goes away. Any ideas as to the cause? Seems to be the opposite problem as most people are having, but I figured I'd ask.
Also, this only happens when the brakes warm up.
