Tein Flex + EDFC.. Thoughts?
I also have this setup (with edfc) and I have to say it makes for a really rough ride on the street. You will feel EVERY single little bump in the road, even on the softest setting. The evo isn't my daily ride so its not a big deal, the handling is ridiculous with this setup. Can't wait to AutoX with this suspension!
Honestly it doesn't feel like the stiffness changes when you increase the dampening rate via the edfc. The springs are soooo stiff that pretty much at any setting it feels very very rough. Its almost unbearable on really bad roads.
Wow I am such an idiot. After realizing that pressing up in fact decreases the dampening rate (the 0 is the stiffest) I was able to achieve a very comfortable "soft" ride setting. I was thinking 0 - front 0 - rear was the softest, but was in fact this was the stiffest setting. No wonder my car was getting airborne off of every little bump in the road lol. Setting it to 10 - front 10 - rear makes the car feel very bouncy just like a regular stock suspension (almost). Overall I am very impressed with this setup. The cornering ability of the car (on a stiff setting) is absolutely ridiculous.
Also would like to note (after my first SCCA event with this setup) that the car has a ridiculous amount of oversteer. The front shocks were set at 8, and the rears at 6. I didn't detect any sign of understeer. The oversteer was enough enough to get very sideways around turns (by accident) but the car seemed to always remain in control. I didn't take any video, but the next event I will be sure to get some of it on film.
I completely agree w/ Tsuroro, The EDFC is such a gimmick, I'd rather get out of my car and spend exactly 1 minute adjusting then spend $300 and be able ot do it in cabin. I've never seen anyone use it at a track event or autocross, and if hundreds of thousands of weekend racers hve done w/o it, i'd say it's un-needed, but if you want to throw your $ and save that 1 min, up to you.
Tein's lower end shocks have proven to be underdamped, not to mention the adjustment levels don't do much, I think the FLEX is comparatively better than the SS, but there's better set ups to be had for that money. People would be surprised how comfortable a set of well-valved shocks feel.
