spring spacers - how to remove
spring spacers - how to remove
my car is bouncy......... and I can my fist in between the tire and fender....so..... i looked this morning and they left the front spring spacers in...duh..
anyway...the dealer is too far for me to go back, so can i just jack up the car to relieve the weight and remove these myself?

The spring spacers are going to probably be a pain to remove.. It is supposed to be removed by the dealer during PDI.. However, I suspect that their either 2 peice units.. or thin enough where if you jack the car up, you can pull them (unwind??) out of the spring once the weight is off the car.
alot of s2000s actually had this problem too. Road and track actually TESTED their s2000 with the spacers in and said the handling was crap... Anyways, I remember reading over at the s2000 boards that you basically just have to jack the car up and start yanking on them. MIght be different on the evo. It would be good to take pictures of how to do this because ALOT of people seem to be having this problem...
Even if you plan to do this yourself, make sure you call the dealer and make them aware that they screwed up. Somewhere inhouse there is a tech that needs to know what he's doing wrong. Hell, tell them the bad handling almost cause you an accident
hehe. Maybe not.

yes they should be able to just slide out if you jack up the car... if need be you can step on the rotor when the wheel is off to further uncoil the spring, but you should be able to remove the spacer farely easily
dumbass
techs...
they were left on my s2000 when i picked it up... they were very easy to remove once the car was jacked up

My car doesn't appear to have the spacers, it still seems to ride pretty high.. I know the springs will settle slightly.. but the ride is actually pretty nice, nowhere near as harsh as I was expecting. And we're talking about Long Island (Northeast potholed) roadways..
Good to hear you dont find it that harsh at all. I figured it wouldn't be as harsh as some (not so hardcore) people have whined about. Im curious how loud is the suspension because Ive heard that the sound of an evo 6.5's suspension being compared to dropping a bag full of old typwriters everytime they hit a pothole or hard bump?
i did remove them...very simple... but wear gloves if you have to do it yourself... now i have black tar **** all over my fingernails..
Once i jacked up the car, (no need to remove wheels) they just need a quick nudge and they are out.
Did not drive the car yet...guess tomorrow to work.

Boy that brings back memories of my BMW M-Coupe which was delivered with rubber shipping spacer donuts in place. It was really stiff, and then started to squeek like crazy which prompted me to inspect it and sure enough there they were. It was simple to remove them, although the friggin MCoupe didn't come with a jack or spare, so I had to carefully use a hydraulic floor jack with a piece of wood for protection. Hmmmmm.....I better check my EVO just to be on the safe side.I will kill them if they left those in place!!!
Thanks for the FYI!!
