Leave as is & let the tire burn its way through the liner / Take a heat gun & heat the liner area in question & gently massage it out of the way / Go to the 35 series tire

Heat gun sounds like a good idea. Would it be possible to shim the liner back somehow ?

Not quite sure about shimming. I doubt there would be much room for the liner to be set back any further w/out heating

Heat gun did the trip.

Here are the before pics, you can see where it touched.

After pics, no more rubbing. There is a metal seem behind the plastic that is extremely close but it doesn't touch. I wouldn't autocross with it but on my swift springs no more rubbing.

Wish i would have read this sooner. Bought evo X wheels and put Michelin Pilot Sport tires 245 40 and get the rub. Im OCD about things so I guess i have to sell my tires with only 78 miles on them and get 235/40 or 255/35 depending on price and size per tire

anyone in socal looking to buy practically brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 245 40 with 78 miles?? got the paperwork from americas tire

All is not lost. Where are you getting the rub, exactly?

Check for loose fender liners. I can't imagine you would be anywhere CLOSE to rubbing just by moving to a 245 tire.

Rubbing mainly on driverside front liner. Mainly on hard right lock so the liner part closest to the headlight near the outside part

Sounds like the liner isn't positioned correctly.

Triple checked and all is wheel, plus car runs straight.
Thats what i thought too about 245/40 since everyone says to just put in EXO X wheels and tires with no prob.
The only difference is that the Michelin 245/40 are a little taller but then I read threads like this one about having probs with 245/40 just like mine and am curious if people just cut their fender liners or not care about rub etc

Depends on how severe the rub is. If its only at lock positions, we usually just let the tire burn through the liner.

The heat gun method is good to try for sure. That 40 series tire combined w/a lower ride height is the cause. Curious how low you are? If you dont have a least 2 fingers worth of clearance between the top of the tire & the front fender, you may want to consider cranking up on the coilovers (doing that will change your toe settings!)

Well, the issue boils down the this:
  • The 18" wheel w/the 40 series tire
  • The +38 offset which positions the tire deep in the well, in contact w/the inner liner at lock positions
My front liners are destroyed / modified. Its important to keep the upper liners,in place, in the well. There are important electrical harnesses that run above both front liners
