New Front Struts Caused by Tein??

Can someone tell me where I can find new front struts for my Evo 8. I called the local Mitsu dealership and they wanted $335 for each and I don't really want to pay that much if I don't have to.

My car only has 33K miles and I BELIEVE the problem is from the Tein S-Tech lowering springs. They were on the car when I bought it. Has anyonce else had this problem?

So should I just purchase new struts and move on or should I look into getting new lowering springs as well. Perhaps Swift or Robispec.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Dump the Tein springs. Too low. They're going to blow the next set of dampers you have. Going back to stock will improve ride quality and handling anyway.

Or you could get our GTWorx springs, or Robi's springs, or Swifts. All of these have mild to medium drops and will improve handling over stock (and dramatically better then Teins).

Rather then $335 x 2 for OEM dampers, you can get a set of 4 new Bilstein HD's for about 699. We have a couple sets in stock. You can also sometimes find sets of used Bilsteins from MR's for a good deal, but just make sure they're in good condition (i.e. weren't used with Teins).

Check out TireRack.com - they sell the Bilstein HD's for 105$ each. Might want to chuck those springs and get Swifts..

^ they're not 105 each on tirerack's site....it's 107 each for the rears. The fronts are called Bilstein Sports and are more.

Sounds like you are right..

It shows the Rears for 107$ each. And the fronts for 220$ each..

So around 654$ before tax and shipping, still a good deal though..

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Lots of people have had this problem. The Teins are too soft, too low, and not great in any form other than looks. They hurt the cars handling.

Well, you need both. The strut is dead, the cause is the spring.

For $650 you can get all new struts - Bilstein HDs. If you dont want all new struts look into the For Sale forum. MR Bilsteins go for $400 or so. And OE for much less.

For $270ish you can get great springs - Swifts. Your car will drive better daily, and when you get into fun parts it will handle better than it ever has before. Just be sure to get the right Swift version for the struts. There is specific rates for the MR struts.
