help pulling the tierod

i'm replacing the boot to the powersteering rack(passenger side), after unbolting the tierod from the knuckle, the tierod is supposed to unthread from the rack right? it seems to just spin forever and not do anything... Am i missing something in the equation here??

appreciate the help!

I assume you are talking about the inner tie-rod. You need a special tool to get the mounting nut loose, as the inner tie-rod is a spherical mount and will spin all day without coming loose. If you just cut the boot off the rack you should see the mount...a special too is not absolutely necessary, it will make your like alot easier. Good luck

First off I am not directly familiar with the Evo, but as a mechanic for Chrysler and most recently Toyota every tie rod I have come across is R&R'd this way.

You already have it unbolted from the knuckle so we'll skip that. There should be a locking nut right behind the tie rods. Don't touch the locking nut because it will serve as a marker when you put the new tie rods back on so you know where your toe is set. If the whole arm coming out of the steering rack is turning when you try and remove the tie rod then you need to hold onto it either with a wrench if the arm is boxed off, or a pair of pliers if its grooved. Once they're removed screw the new ones back on until they are tight against the locking nut then I'm sure you can figure out the rest. Even though I said not to touch the lock nuts so your toe won't be messed with, you should still get an alignment. Usually the toe will be off by a few degrees, but it won't be so bad to where it tears up your tires.

*EDIT* Sorry I didn't read. This was for the outer tie rods, not for removing the arm from the rack. Good luck. I've never done that before. Never came across a situation where I had to do that.
