Well to bring a thread back from the dead. . .

Since a lot of people with IX's are running wheels and tires other than the stock size, for example 18"s, cause damage to the drivetrain when using the donut?

If so, your solution to this issue?

Could a IX use a X spare tire since it has 18" stock?

As long as the overall diameter of the spare tire is the same or very close to the size you have on the 18" wheels on your IX it should be ok.

While it's not good for the diffs, a short trip to get home won't ruin anything. If you're stranded and have a long highway drive, call a tow truck.

Well a spare tire that's 125/70/17 has a circumference of 75.05 inches, while a 245/40/18 will have a circumference of 80.79 inches. That's a difference of approximately 60 revolutions per mile.

So, would that be enough difference to cause damage if you were to drive home, lets say 45 miles?

yes youll be fine. one main thing is to keep the speed down because of the limited traction available of the spare tire though.

Donuts are made to get you off the road so main tire can be fixed or replaced.Driving civilized on a donut shouldn't harm anything.

So it's agreed that even with an 18" setup that isn't perfectly plus sized to the stock size, it won't damage the car to limp back home?

Basically... btw whats Mitsubishi allowable difference of treaddepth between tires for it not to damage any drivetrain components?
