Post Having problems out of nowhere!

Just the other day I was on the freeway and suddenly the right passenger wheel started shaking. I went out, jacked the car up, and saw the the tie rod had disconnected from the wheel. The nut that belonged on it was no where to be found. I'm not sure how it had happened, I'm guessing it wasn't torqued on good? It's OEM though. This is going to sound really stupid but I used duct tape to TEMPORARILY fix the problem, which worked rather well. The steering actually still had its bite hah. I went to Car Quest, Napa, and Checkers Auto parts seeing if they know what size nut I'd need for the tie rod, they dont seem to know and I don't know either. Does anyone happen to know what size would be needed? Those are pretty much the only auto part stores available to me.

Another problem came out of nowhere too, right after my tie rod. It started as: when accelerating too quickly (however not flooring, or even attempting) i could feel the car shake roughly. It would only happen when accelerating too quickly, it didn't really matter what speed I was traveling at though. However now it will shake even worse, to the point where I can hear things hitting each other (not sure where) and I can't even get past 35mph without it happening no matter how slow I accelerate.
I'm thinking wheel balancing. I keep forgetting to check regardless of how many times I pull off that one wheel to check the tie rod.

Can anyone give me any suggestions or answers. I don't really want to replace and would prefer to repair if possible at all.

The nut is self locking and should be used only once. Get another one from Mitsu. In the meantime, park the Evo. Worry about the other problem when this is fixed.

Ever seen the Red Green Show?

It's going to be a metric thread nut. I'd go down to your local hardware store and get some M6 and higher nuts. Should be cheap enough and one of the sizes should fit - at least well enough until you can get one from Mitsubishi.
