Steering quickener

Anyone have enough groin to quicken an already sharp rack? By how much and what unit?

Why? I've looked it this, but only for customers restoring cars with old 5 turn boxes.

I LOVE the evo's "twitchy" steering when stock. Now with added caster it doesn't "feel" as good as stock. I'd love something quicker than 13:1 ... There's a company that makes a Qrack for the subies and I think it's like 11.5:1. That would be nuts!

if you think the evo's rack is too slow you're doing something wrong.

Well, I am doing something wrong. I've driven cars with variable ratio boxes and those are superior.

What about the Perrin super steer ? I see that it is specific to newer year sti chassis. Is that a correction we could gain multiple benefits response , bump steer Ackerman etc?

I've been following the drift guys discussion about Ackerman. It's interesting as they commonly reweld and weld on knuckles.

Please....EVO steering is way faster than the STi... I had an 05' STi and going to the EVO. I'm very please with what Mitsu did with it with the exception of having to park it.

I was just being honest, my experience with variable ratio steering was with recirculating ball (Saginaw) steering. Once you've driven a vehicle with variable ratio steering straight ratio steering just feels wrong and always will. The first variable ratio rack and pinion units were made in 1999. How they were able to cut gear teeth to make that work has got to be a story in itself.

I beleive BMW uses variable ratio racks in the M series cars.

Realistically, because of the linkage angles, the EVO also has variable ratio steering.

When large steering wheel movements are needed on the street at speed it is a sign that things aren't right. In this situation you want the driver to be able to achieve the needed result with least amount of steering wheel cranking because the window of accident avoidance is usually small. On the other hand, the steering can be made less twitchy for normal straight ahead driving. I fail to see the down side of variable ratio steering.
