Some data on 17x9 255/40 combo fitment

I've been running Enkei PF01SS 17x9 +35 mm with 255/40 tires, GTWorx springs, and stock-ish camber settings for about a year with absolutely no clearance issues. I recently started contemplating other 17x9 wheels, some of which have offsets as low as +30 mm. To test the +30 mm offset waters, I slapped on a set of 5 mm spacers last night. So far no rubbing doing full lock circles in a parking lot, and no issues in a 30 minute drive. I still need to load up the rear of the car to see what that does. I suspect it will be no problem though because the slightly lowered stance of the GTWorx springs leaves plenty of travel for the wheel to arc inward to clear the fender. Might be more of an issue for more heavily lowered Evos where there is less travel to arc the wheels under the fenders. Note: my fenders are not rolled.

Good info. To add to your findings my buddy who I race NASA with has a 05 Evo VIII with swift spec r's and he's running 17x9 +28 Buddy Club QF's with 255/40/17 RS3's and he has no rubbing either.

How do you like 275's on a 9 inch rim?! I was contemplating trying it but I almost feel like 275 is just a tad too much

Another data point for you:

I run 17x9 +27 Team Dynamics wheels w/ 255/40-17 tires with Ohlins coilovers on the track.
The rears fenders require a roll and the bumper bolt will lightly rub on full compression.
The fronts will lightly rub the inner liners at full lock.

On some books its OK on others its one size too large for the 9". I have since changed & run the Advan 17x9 +29 w/255/40 Nitto NT01 as my track wheel. My street wheel is currently the Rota P45R 17x9.5 +30 w/the Nitto NT05 275/40

Didnt mention the rear fenders have about 8 shop labor hours to get full clearance

It is a very good wheel spec for those who is not willing to deal with fender work
Buy some 255/40/17 and you are good to go

I've been using TE37 17x9 +35mm 255\40 Hankook RS3 for the last 2 years, using stock suspension, lowered springs, HKS and Tein coilovers on the street and on the track - without any rubbing issues at all. Fenders are not rolled. Thats just a perfect size for Evo.

Are you using any spacers up front? I'm currently running 17x9 +35 fno1r-c with 255s with small spacers in the front

From my experience the profile of the spokes is probably the difference there.
I got my PFO1's already and they are perfect, they comfortly clear the brembos, and can fit a sausage finger between strut body and wheel.

I am not using any spacers, TE37 provide plenty of clearance between spokes and calipers.

Different spoke designs may require spacers.
