Fabricating chassis braces

So work is slow and I’m bored at home. Can’t sit around so decided to try and fabricate some chassis braces for the car. Why? Well, no reason just to see if I can do it and it’s good for the car so I said screw it. I’ve been trying to get better at welding but just don’t have the time so this was my chance. The center brace may sit a bit low for my liking since my car is low to the ground but I still have to get it off jack stands to see. I’m deciding on what to do next. I’m thinking about fender braces.

Thanks man. Theyre pretty strong. Ive spent maybe $50 on materials so far. The guy at my local metal supply place gives me a great price on left over stuff. I still have aluminum left over which i will use to make another set of braces and fender braces. Ill post pics as i go. Im thinking of selling the center brace. I have another idea in mind which is pretty cool but no point unless i sell this one. What am i going to do with 2 lol.

Nice DYI for sure. Not sure if you will feel the diff, but nice job

The only chassis braces that work well are the fender braces (noted by Robispec)

Working on some new braces. Will send pics when finished and installed. Will do the fender ones next. Then I’m thinking of trying to make a power brace like the Cusco. What do you guys recommend I make it out of? Prob regular steel since chromoly is expensive but don’t want it to be too heavy. Hmm. Anyone know how thick the Cusco tubing is? What material they use? Maybe 1 1/4”?

Here you can see how much the front of the car flexes. I made the line with the car on jackstands and the picture is with the car on the ground. Fender braces are done. I will post pictures soon. I painted them and the paint i bought was crap so will be sanding them and repainting.

Thats an interesting picture. As i noted a few posts ago, Robert of Robispec was pretty adamant about the worthiness of the front upper chassis brace.

Not sure what he knew & why he was a proponent of them but i totally remember the conversation i had w/him on this piece

Nice work

Thx man. I was surprised when I saw how much it had shifted with the car on the floor. I will post pics of the finished product.

Well braces are painted. They came out dope. I will post here in the next day or so when rain calms. Let’s see if they do anything. I’m thinking of selling the center brace (square one). I want to do something different. Anyone interested? Btw i beleive my downpipe is a buschur 3" which nothing fits with it so the brace will fit pretty much anything out there.
