hmm I am not sure here since I havent touched it myself. theres a bolt and spring clamp at the bottom of the steering column, under the fire wall cover. I'm wondering if its possible thats the part that skipped when you spun. I had a front wheel set up that leans on the frame also, but I've never spun the car with them on

OP, you're looking into this way more than it needs. Most wide setups rub the inner wall at lock, the internal steering rack stops are meant for stock sized wheels.

Usually you're rolling forward so it rubs on a soft face of the wall but if you go backwards you'll rub the opposite direction and catch that edge like a knife. Theres nothing wrong with the car, just dont left the wheel go to lock while moving, expecially backwards.

I took a BFH to my edges there and rolled them in though to make sure it was soft both ways.

Just a follow up post to give the conclusion to my saga.

Steering rack was bad. I was able to source a used rack from an '03 Evo from a salvage yard on the Internet. My shop put the new rack in and it cleared up the autocross wheel rub issues. Side note: while my car was at this shop I became a victim of the "Ballston Spa Hamburglar" (you can Google him). The hamburglar ended up stealing my quick release steering wheel out of my car while it was parked at the shop, resulting in a 2 week delay while we ordered a new Momo wheel and NRG quick release. My small battery died while at the shop (I usually keep it on a battery tender when it's home) and thus one night when the shop used the fob to lock the car, it never triggered the locks. The hamburglar happened to be released at 4AM after being booked for yet another burglary, and was retrieving his car from the shop next door where it had been towed when he was arrested earlier that day. Decided to see if he could get some more meth money while trying to retrieve his car by rummaging through my car and taking the steering wheel.

After 2 months, the car will be coming home next week. Next step is to try to figure out if I want to sell it and get something newer with parts support, or just retire the Evo from autocross duty and keep it as a track car.
