Brake Problem

Ok. I posted a topic last week about needing help with my brake pad install and no one responded (before I had to get started) So, I did the job and now the new pads squeal like a stuck pig. Then I re-did the job and they still squeal. I had the rotors (front) turned and installed the Ferodo DS2500 pads the same way Ive installed pads in the past. What gives?

I used a generous amount of anti-squeal, both times. The first time I squirted the antisqueal goop between the pad and shim and on top of the shim, then installed. I thought maybe the stuff needed to dry before I installed them, so I removed them all, scraped the stuff off and tried again...this time letting the goop dry before I installed them and only putting the stuff on the outside of the shim/pad and not between. Still squealing. Any ideas?

Did you reuse the "sticky" shim from the stock brake pads?

There should be the "sticky" shim on the back of the brake pad in addition to the floating shim. Also, don't forget to use the anti-squeal on the top of the brake pad where the copper spring touches the pad.

No, I didn't peel the "sticky shim" off of the old pad, just the loose one. Man what a pain, I should have let the dealer do it!

Ahh, try adding the sticky shim to the new pads, it should help with the squealing. I had the same issues when I first installed new brake pads.

Hmmm...I get occasional squeel with the 2500s but hardly enough to complain about. Are the pins in all the way? Maybe try a different anti-squeel compound.

If I pull them out again (3rd time) and reinstall the sticky shims from the factory pads, I will definitely use a different antisqueal compound...this stuff I have sucks!

Spray down the shims with brake cleaner and get all the funk off of them. Do the same with the back of the pads. You might also want to try cleaning the caliper pistons. I never put the compound between the pistons and the shim but it looks like Mitsu did at the factory. Goo gets built up on the pistons too.

Lastly, I use the compound very liberally

update

Ok. bottom line: You need the sticky shims.(the shims glued to the stock pads) Nothing I tried makes the squealing go away until I put the shims back on. I will find out if you can get this shim material from a parts store...More to follow.
