i think a lot of people use 255's on the stock rims when purchasing track tires

Really it's do-able but I think that you should really put 255's on a 9" wheel. Seems the side walls would bulge out a little bit wouldn't they? And wouldn't this in turn cause a loss in the handling dept.? Just my thoughts and I could be(probably am) wrong.

evo81 Aug 9, 2005 03:27 PM

it'll work.i also rather have a 255 on a 9'' also

255's on Stock MR wheels here. Toyo RA-1s...works perfectly, not even much sidewall bulge.

Austinevo, CORRECT! 245 is widest reccmmended on an 8 inch wheel. 8.5 is ok for 255. It'll still fit but sidewall will bulge slightly. (when time comes, im gonna do it!)

I would stick to the 235 width.

I have seen/read many people with 255's on an 8 inch wide wheel. They say it fits just fine with not much sidewall bulge. They also say handling is great. I plan to go with 255's on 8 inch wide wheels when my stockers go bald.

Too wide. You WILL have sidewall flex. Go 245 at the widest, especially if you are doing autox or road racing. 9" is best with 255, 10" with 275 as it is ideal to have the bead of the tire parallel with the rim. Tires are designed to work best that way.

However, if you drag race, it may not matter-more contact patch would give you better adhesion in a straight line launch.
