i peeled practically the entire caliper... with my fingernail/piece of plastic.. washed with soapy water...then sanded lightly 400 grit.. washed it again...then i put 4 coats of duplicolor now this is where it gets alittle wierd.. i was going to use laquer.. but i couldn't find heat resistant... so i used.. well here's a pic of what i used...engine enamel.. i think it will hold up fine... up to 500 deg F...

Looks great big improvement mine had the same problem. I was able to get mine fixed under warranty would the dealership not do them for you I guess?

its an improvement. cant deny that.

Derek Baker Sep 25, 2005 06:16 PM

It looks good {thumbup}

How did you do the Brembo sign ??? You did not have to respray the caliper with red??
I hope that it lasts without peeling again

its definitely possible to get the calipers over 500 degrees F if you drive hard or do some track days. i pyrometered my calipers in at 620 degrees after doin some autox just to see what temps i was running. but this was on my crappy OZ lancer with small brakes compared to your evo's.

the paint should hold up tho.

amazingly the brembo logo never peeled.. everywhere around it did.. but not on the logo..... i just didn't sand the brembo part.. and sprayed directly over it..... and i'm kind of afraid to go to the dealer..

and no i didn't have to spray the caliper with red at all.. only used the clear...

bacalhau16 Sep 25, 2005 10:11 PM

so then u never hit it with 4 coats of duplicolor before the engine enamel? thats what u originally stated.

keviin Sep 25, 2005 10:15 PM

duplicolor is the name brand of the engine enamel.. look at the picture.. all i used was the enamel.. duplicolor=engine enamel...

It looks great!

Damn, that came out great. That's probably what I'll have to end up doing to mine. Wasn't sure how it would come out but after seeing these pics, I may just do it now.

vone750 Sep 26, 2005 07:56 AM

i gota do this too. looks great..

Looks good {thumbup} So even after sanding the caliper it didn't loose it's original color? I may have to try this, as mine are peeling also.

that's correct... i used the 400 grit very lightly... the sandpaper turned alittle pink.. just don't put too much pressure on it.. more like i just slid the sandpaper over the caliper
