New brakes for 05 Evolution MR
 

Hi, I currently drive a 2005 Evolution MR with about 25,600 miles on it. I drive the car everyday to work and school, so it's pretty much a daily driven vehicle. I started to notice that my brake pads and rotors are down to the minimum wear indications. I only went to the track once last year, and hardly ever race there overall. I was a little bit upset that the factory brembos( which are awesome! don't get me wrong) wore out so fast. I asked Mitsu how much they wanted and they said $2,100 for everything. I was about to faint!!! So instead I ordered new powerslot slotted rotors and new brembo pads. Do you think that is a good combination? Will I see a difference in overall performance from these brakes?

PierreK...I've got 50,000 miles of seat time in two Evos on stock brakes. I doubt if you'll notice a difference in performance...assuming you're running the stock Brembo pads. However...TAKE GREAT PERSONAL SATISFACTION in F!@&$N' the dealer out of a grand in profit.

send a PM to Edwin, Slowcar or PJsevo8, these guys changed their brakes with different pads. Edwin got aftermarket pads and PJ also but PJ got Duralast from Autozone with lifetime warranty for less than $40.

As per your rotors, you might be able to resurface them however for a $2100 dealer quote you can probably upgrade your pads and rotors to a two piece light weight rotors.

There are many many options out there. By the way, 25000 miles for stock pads is a good benchmark in my opinion. Good luck!


I also forgot, there are companies outthere like tirerack that also carry Brembo brakes and could do your brakes for a portion of what the dealer charges. I hope that helps Bro!!

Thanks guys, I wish I could resurface my rotors, but according to the last micrometer they are warped. Tomorrow I will go to performance autowerks and get new powerslot rotors, and brembo pads installed. I got a decent deal on brembo pads from O'Brien Mitsubishi. They sold me the front pair for $180.00, and the rear for $163.00.

Mitsubishi dealer brakes=$2,100.00=hahaha=I dont think so

I also have a 2005 MR and recently just replace my front rotors and pads due to my rotors warps. I also have the powerslot with project mu NS street pads, I am still in the process of braking them in, but so far the braking is smooth and powerful. once I got them brake in a little more I will step harder to see how it performs

What mileage did you replace your front brakes?

I didn't bother to buy the stock brembo pads they are way too expensive. Next time you should look into aftermarket pads like Project mu (very well know brakes company) they have different type of pads too. I got my front pads for $70 only.

I just replace them about 17300 miles, my front rotors were warping for long time and I went back to factory for resurfacing, but the problem still exists. so I decide to get new rotors and pads

what have you done to your 2005 MR?

not much, just a HKS air filter and dynoflash.

hks drop in filter? do you have boost control?

the honeycomb filter, and no boost controller

25k sounds about right. maek sure you look into other options.
