According to this, is the 245/40-17 the optimal size for the stock wheel? Thank...

The 245 is fine.

That is what I had on my last evo and I will be putting them on my new on when it needs new tires. Which is now. :) good luck.

I just switched from the A047s to these and I hate them... no where near the grip of the advans... I'll sell you a set with 150 miles on them...

Turbolover Jul 23, 2006 12:50 PM

H-rated tires! They have no wet or dry grip, WASTE OF MONEY!!

nukblazi Jul 23, 2006 04:38 PM

I knew a lot of people that autocrossed with these... obviously, great drivers in slow cars... I can light these things up in my stock IX. The tirerack description about dry preformance is misleading. Paper weights for my EZ-up, nothing more. They are terrifying in the rain.

H-rated Kumho MXs? Where?
How can you compare the advans to these when the advans cost about twice as much? For many many weekend HPDE drivers the MXs is the choice because they stick well, tolerate heat well, and are a bargain for the performance they offer.

4-BNGR Jul 23, 2006 05:41 PM

They are "Y" speed rated (Y 186 mph 300 km/h).

Are we talking about the same tire, here?

nukblazi Jul 23, 2006 07:37 PM

Performance comparison- description was "maximum dry performance sacraficing wet..." dry is equal to the advan in the rain with these. Anyway, I don't like them... 4-BNGR, interested? I will be at VIR next weekend. I paid $440 +s/h. $400 and they are yours. There's a tire guy at the track that could mount and balance them for you.

I ran them in a torrential downpour this weekend at the SCCA Northeast Solo II Divisional, in a horribly underprepped car.

They worked great in the wet with good driving.

Ultimate CC Jul 23, 2006 09:51 PM

I run this and so far I am liking them, the big thing is you have to wear them down a bit before then get fast, at first I hated these tires but they are getting faster and faster each week autoxing or maybe I am just getting better but I think its a combination...

the 245/40/17 are wayyy too small, and much smaller than the stock tires. They are NOT a good size replacement for the stock tires.
below is a chart of some numbers

Width Profile Diameter Total Diameter
235 45 17 25.33
255 45 17 26.04
245 45 17 25.68
245 40 17 24.72
255 40 17 25.03

tirerack recommends that you stay within 3% of the stock tire size. the 255/45/17 is 2.8% taller than stock and will affect the speedometer reading by 1.5mph.
