How do a-046's work when worn down?
Just curious how they work as they get close to bald. I've heard that the rt-615s get worse and the kumho mx's get better.
Reason being is I want to run the AMS track day next month and my tires are starting to go bald, one of the tires has a baldspot in the inside. I was thinking I might buy one used one to replace it, but I'd like to hear opinions because Im no tire expert. |

don't go running a trackday with a shot tire. You need ample tread, because you're gonna use it. Imagine getting 5 laps and you come in and see cords. Your day is done, and you're lucky to not have had a tire failure.

if you've never run a track day, you'd be better off on some crappy tires, than sticky stocks, imo.

Good advise by Warmpepsi. Usually all tires when they get worn down become faster, if they haven't been through too many heat cycles and aren't very old. But when they get worn down they won't last as long before they get corded. Do yourself a favor and just get some tires with decent amounts of tread on them so that when you are out there having fun, tires are the last thing you have to worry about.

lame?
You said this is a track day, not a time trial competition. You'd learn a whole lot more with the setup of the car on street tires, then you would running r-comps or hoosiers. I've run (literally) dozens of events in an evo. It's amazing to go back and run streets and see where you're completely killing a tire as far as throwing it around. (320 treadwear fuzions = awesome for that) Anywho, you got the good idea about not running on shot tires. |

I can't really afford to buy the whiteline roll center adjustment kit which I want. I agree with your statement about r-comps, but I don't think I ever even mentioned those. My stock tires have worked perfectly in the past which is why I'd like to use those again over some crappy tire that doesn't have as much grip. From my perspetive more grip means I can go faster which is more fun. |
I think it depends how worn they are. Bald worn, 1/2 tread?
|
they all have decent tread depth except for a single tire which on the inside is slightly bald

i had 16000 on the stockers and just put brand new tires on, the difference, you cant even put into words. it feels like i just pulled it off the lot again, so i'd say if they're worn down, trash em'
