225's on 9mr?

i browsed the tire faq and mostly saw info on going with wider tires. would going from a 235 to a 225 be a bad idea? i got a really good deal on some re070's and the stock advans need to replaced very soon. should i go with the 225's or sell them and try to get something 235 or wider? this would be for daily driving with occasional twisty fun. nothing too extreme. thanks!

Thats the STi stock tire. While I would say go for a larger tire, depending on how great the deal is, go for it. Just dont get into the habit too consistently...LOL

just so long as it doesn't hurt the car, that's my main concern. i got 3 with 6k daily driving miles for $175 and getting the fourth one from tire rack for about $175. i know it will have to be shaved down to match the other 3, but that's still a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Read my write-up, I found it beneficial to go with a larger tire, because I was planning for the future...

I run 225/45/17 cuz I also got a smoking deal from a friend.. (dunlop sport fm901) I love the way they look.. a little stretched.. The STI runs this tire, Its not like its a 195 or a 205 from a civic..

i do plan on getting a new set of wheels and tires in the near future, but for now i NEED new tires:lol: they came off an 06 sti that belongs to a co-worker of a friend of mine, so i know they're on the level. thanks again for the help, guys!

If they're freebies, hell yeah, why not?...But, if you have to spend your own money and you are planning to go wider in the future, you should just buy a wider tire now, instead of having to ditch a set when you get wider wheels...

Are these going on the stock wheels?

esp4life Jul 9, 2007 01:31 PM

they were close to free. i plan on going wider when i get some new wheels, so that's when i'll get the wider tires. these are going on the stock mr bbs wheels which have the 235's on them. i didn't figure a slight difference like that (235 to 225) would be a big deal, but wanted to see what the evo community thought before i really did anything.

For a little more than what you paid, you coulda got a set of Falken Azenis RT 615 in 255/40/17. $524 shipped from edgeracing.com.

Going smaller than stock (IMO) is just retarded, no matter how much you save.

that's almost $200 more than what i will end up paying. i will consider those when it comes time to order wheels and wider tires, though. do you have any experience with them?

This is not always true...Less weight in rotating mass is a good thing and also a stretched tire allows for more of a contact patch...Wider is only better in terms of running a wider setup all together (wider wheels and wider tires)...In this case, it is actually beneficial to run a slightly smaller tire.

but doesnt the stock 235/45/17 and the rt-615 (255/40/17) have close to the same rotational ratio or some crap?

Those are the tires I have on my stockers.

Less than $200 more for wider, brand new tires is a much better deal than what you're paying for 3 used and one new more narrow than stock tires.
