Rear Upper Toe Control Arm Cracks

Started to install Energy Suspension Bushings today and noticed this:
Attachment 172832 Attachment 172833 Attachment 172834 Attachment 172835 Both driver and passenger side is like this. I assume I need to replace both arms? What would cause this? |
Yikes. Definitely you need to replace those "toe" arms. I've never heard of this happening. Were these hammered on in the past?

Guys over in the UK have had problems like this, on the bush end too and they have also had problems with the upper arm cracking aswell.
It always cracks along that forging line but the arms that tend to crack over there are the evos that are driven during winter lots as corrosion sets in and weakens it there. |

Mine has had many miles put on it in the snow and salty roads. Maybe that was the problem. I really don't know, I just hope I don't have it happen again. |
Those parts are aluminum, I don't think rust and corrosion would affect them. Are you the original owner of the car?
Do you track your car? I would think the car would have to see some severe stress for that to happen. Might possibly have been defective from the factory. |

I have hard race rear toe arms. The stock ones came off at 55k miles with no apparent issues. How many miles on yours? Lots of track use?

Bout 110k, tons of track time over the past 6-7 years.

Would probably just chalk it up to fatigue over time. With track use, it is being subjected to much harder impacts (and much more often) than it was really designed for...

Yea it's not mindblowing or anything to see this, just haven't heard of it being a problem before.
