Ugh... Brakes. FFS.
Chaps.
My Evo didn't make it to the track once last year because of the time I invested in the clutch, and then I blew a LBJ that of course required subframe surgery. ANYWAY... My stock Brembos are getting to the point where I think I could SAFELY run 1 or 2 track days with them, BUT. I have been trying to upgrade to a new set of DBA's for the better part of 2 years. I have hats, but DBA doesn't seem to be selling rings for our cars anymore? The only ones I can find are the drilled ones, and they look like leftovers, but forget drilled because... well, ugh... drilled. My real question is... what's up with DBA? I'd love to snag a 5000/4000 setup so I can get the unsprung weight... but the real benefit for me was replacing the rings. I know the cost is "negligible" but why am I investing in this company with a purchase, if it looks like they aren't going to be keeping the rings around for me to buy? OR... tl;dr Which brakes can you guys suggest for track use. I really wanted some two piece. Otherwise... I'm really fine with keeping the "stock" setup with simply upgraded pads, fluid, lines... which I've already got. |
Ah heck... did all the track guys leave while I was gone?

I use Performance Friction 2-piece discs and they do sell the rings separately.
That said, nothing wrong with using plain discs either. |
Do you know what part number the hats you have are or the ring part number you're after? I can check with them directly and see what's going on.

Neal:
I don't. AFAIK, all the hats for the Evo's were the same. The rings I'd be looking for are slotted, but not drilled. I could care less about the slot pattern... ultimately, I could really care less about the slotting. The only rings I saw still available were deep in the search results, and they were slotted/drilled. TBPH, I'm not even opposed to getting new hats (ie, a new set of rotors altogether) but there are so many options available... one of the reasons I liked the DBAs was because I could replace the rings. I checked their catalogs though and haven't seen them. It'd be interesting to hear what they have to say Neal. |
Raptord. Thanks... I need to research a bit more. I think if I can't get the DBAs... heck, maybe even if I can, I might go to a floating rotor setup... at least for the front anyway, like those performance frictions.
How'd you end up with those say... over the girodiscs or other floaters? |
I run DBA 5000 2 piece rotors.
The ring part numbers are: 52223.1SL 52223.1SR I think MAPerformance carries them. |

That said, I've ordered the ACTUAL rings from a distributor before, that said "in stock" on their site (about a year ago now) only to hear that they actually weren't in stock, and they had no ETA from DBA on a re-supply. This seems like bad news bears to me. Like, they're probably trending towards discontinued. |
Well, you can always try can call them directly...

I had my purchasing department add the slotted replacement rings to our system. We can get them for $313 ea plus shipping. DBA saying it would be 6-8 weeks before we would have them in house once an order is placed. If interested let me know!

I've dealt with KNS brakes and was steered in the right direction on another evo. I ran Cheap Centric rotors( 110 a set) without dust shields. Used XP8 pads, dot 4 fluid and had no problems on a large track for 30min sessions. I had to warp the tie rod and wheel sensor to keep them from being cooked.
The rotors are so cheap you can throw them away if they warp or crack. |
