LVSBB6's MR dyno

Got my MR tuned at a local dynapack facility, running stock turbo with bolt-ons listed in my sig, tuned via Cobb ATR on 94 oct. This dynapack reads relatively low compared to others, with around 50% drivetrain loss on AWD vehicles. As reference a 1.8T A4 makes 110whp and a V8 S4 makes 220whp on this dyno. While a stock STi only manages 190whp, I would imagine a stock Evo X would also make somewhere around this number.

The run-downs:
Baseline: bolt-ons with no tune: 231whp/258wtq
Green: bolt-ons with initial custom tune: 280whp/303wtq
Blue: MIVEC tuning added: 276whp/298wtq (40wtq+ @3000rpm/60wtq+ @3300rpm)
Pink: Okada plasma ignition installed: 279whp/301wtq (15whp+ @7000rpm)
Red: Final tuned: 294whp/311wtq

Boost:
23psi@3500rpm
26psi@4000-5500rpm
24.5psi@6000rpm
23psi@6500rpm
21psi@7000rpm

A/F:
12.5 @ spool, 11.3-11.5 thereafter.

Car is amusingly fast and pulls strong all the way, torque hits hard and and spool-up is insanely quick. SST is holding up well with the new founded power and shifts smoothly. I'm happy with the end result.

you really should get it re-dynoed at a proper dynojet facility. i never trust dynapacks, after all the inaccurate numbers i see it gives.

how are you hitting 26psi? what are you using to control boost?

LVSBB6 Aug 10, 2009 09:15 AM

Compared to dynojet, the dynapacks reads low especially this one, but it is a very accurate tuning tool indeed. I was getting consistent numbers run after run so I`m not sure how you come up with that statement. There is bound to be difference in numbers between dynos, and even within the same type of dynos.

Without variables of wheel pressure, alignment, strap tension and a built in weather station, i would say Dynapack is the most repeatable and is the reason why most big tuners and motorsport sanctioning bodies use them, and also why they cost twice as much. No one races dynos, they are simply a tuning device.

was boost and/or timing increased in the final tune (red) over the blue/pink pulls? you seem to have some pretty significant gains between these. car must be a fun drive. can i try? :)

A lot of members here are hitting 25-26 psi after getting tuned with stock ECU boost control. It's really no surprise and the WGA is not needed for running 26 psi.

nice numbers

Boost is actually lower from 26.5psi to 26psi in the final run just to play safe, we made adjustments mainly on the timing and mivec tuning, A/F was tuned to be conservative in the low 11s. Its quite a blast to drive indeed :D
