BWagner's E85 Powered X. 363whp
I finally made the switch to e85 and traveled back down to DG Motors for the conversion. Pete from DG cleaned up my pump gas map and adjusted it for the 1000cc injectors before getting to work on my e85 map. When we first put the car on the dyno the car was breaking up bad on wot, pegging the aem wideband at full rich. After an hour of frustration trying to diagnose the issue, we realized the fuel pressure regulator vacuum source had blown off despite being ziptied. We reattached the vacuum line and got back to work. it was not long before we ran into more issues, the newly installed grimmspeed ebcs was overboosting even with the wastegate duty cycles set to 0. After another long session of investigation we discovered my car's rom had an error in one of the definitions and was thus not controlling the wgdc's. Flashed in a different rom and finally got to making some power. We ended up making ~310 whp on pumpgas and 363whp on the corn juice. I must praise Pete's determination and patience with all of the problems we ran into. His persistence finally paid off as we got everything sorted out. He was very honest through out the process, explained to me the changes he was making, and answered all questions i had. Overall i am happy with my results and glad i made the switch to Ethanol:godance:

Solid numbers, looks about right. These cars on the stock turbo and corn feel awesome!

nice numbers

Congrats. Very Nice gains.

looks like a lot of fun
hoping to get my e85 done next week |
afrs were tuned to 11.5-11.6 on the dyno. i've noticed my afrs are now at 12.5-12.6 at wot. Obviously, im very worried and can not figure out what would have caused the afrs to lean out a full 1.0. Stilly trying to diagnose the issue.
Any opinions or recommendations are extremely appreciated. possible exhaust leak? one thing i thought of was that when we were setting up the 3 port we switched around the lines several times and were swapping back and forth between the oem and grimmspeed bcs. If the car had been tuned with the bcs vent not attached to the intake, and then had it put on the nipple after it was taken off the dyno, would this cause an influx of unmetered air -------->lean condition? complete speculation on my part, just trying to get this running right. |

Have you updated the fuel pump relay? Check your fpr hose and make sure it didn't pop off!! |
I've only done two pulls to check the afrs and they both read in the mid 12s. I have not since gotten back on the car. Updated the relay with the blue relay before i went on the dyno. FPR vacuum line has not popped off, it was the first thing i checked.
any other ideas? starting to get extremely frustrated. Thank you for the help Tach motorworks! |
Yea it sounds like your relay could be a problem...that is what happens when they go down, you will lean out by a point at least.
|
would this also cause a sometimes erratic idle? Car will occasionally idle at 17.0, even going full lean at times. then shoot over to mid 11s. then back to mid 14s. its all over the place. Cruise seems to be doing alright.
I just replaced the relay with the blue....why would this one be bad? and why wouldnt it have acted up on the dyno. I cant thank everyone enough for trying to help me trouble shoot this. |

Check the fpr hose and the intake for anything that looks like it may have "popped-off"... Take the engine cover off and just visually look for anything abnormal...
Be very carefull. I am not positive, i will have to check with Pete from DG to confirm, but we may have had the bcs venting to atmosphere during tuning and then later tapped it back into the intake. Would this have created these issues as well. I could also be wrong and it could've been connected the entire time. So everyone says the relay, but i just replaced it last week. I guess im just confused why the new one wouldve operated fine on the dyno and not after i left. Thought the blue was the one that wasnt supposed to fail lol. THank you Guys |
Its embarrassing seeing that many people still take their evo to DG after the many stories of disaster there.
I think they are the only vendor to get banned for being shady. Hopefully you fair better then others. Are you getting your AFR readings from the same sensor they were using on the dyno or were they using their own and your looking off yours? Its possible there's was reading richer then it really was. If the FPR line blew off it would run much leaner then 12.5:1 Sounds like tuning issues to me. |
Yeah if the FPR line blew off it would be 15:1+ I saw low 16's when mine popped off before and it would also cause the car to idle at almost 2k rpm. You'd know if that line popped off. Is it possible you still had a fair amount of regular pump gas in your tank when you were tuned on e-85 and then after you went through a tank and are on pure e-85 now you're tune isn't setup to flow enough fuel?
