2014 GSR - Stock engine CBRD RBX 7163 EFR 93 & E85

Final results after new BOV: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...l#post11734199

Here is a stock engine Evo X I am working on. We just finished the tune on 93 & E85 with the stock bov for now. The stock BOV leaks at very low pressure, so I wanted to make a before and after post to show everyone how serious the bov hurts performance when it leaks.

Initially upon trying to tune the vehicle, it would go lean at high RPM. So we dug into the fuel system and found a clogged filter. After replacing the filter all was well.

Mods on car are:

CBRD RBX 7163 EFR Kit
CBRD intake and exhaust /w high flow cat
Walbro 450lph fuel pump /w CBRD rewire kit
DW 1300cc injectors
Tephra X mod v3 /w standard dual map

Forgot to take pictures of the car, But I will after we do the results with the upgraded BOV. Most likely will be turbo XS since we had very good results with that BOV on another Evo X with stock turbo.

Results below are 93 & E85.

Fuel sock we had to replace causing the car to go lean. If your Evo ever goes lean do not keep trying to boost it. Get it looked at ASAP. Going lean is one of the most dangerous things that can happen to your engine in boost pressure.

The CBRD 7163 EFR has a built-in BOV/crv - are you saying it leaks?

It looked to be blocked off with a turbo smart block off plate and the vehicle is running the OEM diverter valve. We are replacing the OEM DV and leaving the rest as is.

on the e85 tune did you intentionally taper the boost up at redline or could it not hold more than 26 or so up top?

It couldn't hold. I'm hoping the aftermarket bov will allow it to hold better.

An upgraded internal wastegate would help also, but I want to see how it does with the current wga on there now.

I've retuned the vehicle with the new BOV / Turbosmart Dual port. As expected, I was able to hold more boost up top and we reached the customers goal of 500WHP safely while keeping torque down!

The car pulls very smooth and hard. The BOV made a night and day difference.

Despite the temps being in the 70F's for the Turbosmart, It really outperformed the stock DV.

Below is the new graph of 500+ and another of the comparison.

And heres a comparison overlay of two of the logs.

Does this have a shaft speed sensor?

tscompusa Apr 29, 2017 05:15 PM

Probably bypassed on this turbo. I didn't see one. This turbos about 60lb/min so id assume its done around 35psi or around there at higher RPM on a 2.0L.

This ones still on stock WGA, so with a 20psi gate it would be able to make even more power on the top end.

It would probably shoot the wheel out before 35psi up top.

I wouldn't recommend anything over 30psi at redline without logging speed for sure.

Nice! I just did this turbo kit not that long ago on an identical car with the same fuel set up. I picked it up gently used but since we've bolted it up it burns oil at idle. (If anyone else has had this issue with this kit please let me know) And on 93 we made around 400ish on a lower reading dyno. Great to see others making great results! Hope we can eventually diagnose the issue on my car and then tune for e85!

I would contact CBRD. Maybe you have one of your oil lines setup wrong or some kind of restrictor isn't in place.

This car doesn't burn any oil at all, and this turbo works great.

This is a very very smooth car. Anyone with a X looking for close to or right around 500WHP dynojet on e85 with stock cams should definitely consider this turbo kit.

The EFR's are internally restricted, so either the drain line has a restriction it should not have, or your car has an issue with the PCV system causing too much crank case pressure at idle.

Dave picked up his car last week. Here's what he said after driving it home on E85 tune.

Awesome results! How long will the stock block last on this kind of power before it gives and needs to be built? Thanks!
